17 weeks out, still in pain.

Just a little background info to begin...Tomorrow will be 17 weeks since my surgery. I had a robot assisted abdominal hysterectomy, everything removed. 10 days post-op I had vaginal cuff repair surgery as well.

I am still having pain at the incision sites. (Total of 6, one abdominal and 5 higher from the robot.) Some itch uncontrollably, but are tender to the touch, so no scratching.

Also having a lot of lower left abdominal pain. It's a stabbing pain that comes and goes and a dull ache. Was told at 9 weeks it was a pulled muscle, but something just doesn't feel right.

I need to return to work, but can't work a full time job due to constant fatigue and dizziness. I keep getting told it takes time and it will all get better.

Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, what did you do to eliminate the pain?

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

Sweetie your body has been through a great deal. Two surgeries in 10 days was a lot on your body. I know that its frustrating to hear, especially when you just want it to be better right now, but it is going to take some time. Are you still taking pain meds? If you are not still talking to your surgeon, have you talked to your primary care doctor to see if there's a pain management program to put you on? I wish that I had the answers that you need. Try to in there

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

I know having two surgeries is really, really tough on your body. I have a question about the pain. Did your doc run any tests to make sure that there isn't something else there. It sounds a lot like what I had and they kept telling me I was fine probably pulled muscles or something. Well, it turned out that for some reason I had trapped gas. They really didn't know why it didn't disipate after the surgery but it took hospitalization and meds and all sorts of unpleasant things to get it to disappear. IF the pain is still there all the time, I might call your doc and see if they can see you. Sending hugs

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

I'm so sorry that you are still experiencing pain this far out. I too had to have cuff repair surgery but 3 weeks after my hysterectomy. My cuff stitches failed due to a hematoma that was pushing against the cuff and finally it gave way. I repeatedly complained to my doctor of stabbing, burning pain on my left side and she told me that I should expect pain as I had been through a difficult surgery (many complications with the hysterectomy.) Looking back I should have insisted on a CT scan and blood tests as that would have revealed the hematoma and I would have avoided the second surgery.

My advice to you is to go back to your doctor and insist that they look into things further. If they don't listen then go to your regular doctor and ask for their help. People will tell you to listen to your body, so if your body is telling you something is wrong then you need to insist that the doctor look closer.

I hope that you feel better soon. Good luck.

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

My surgeon, an oncologist, refuses to see me. Says anything that is wrong with me is not related to the surgery. My gyn is the one that has said it's pulled muscles. I am currently trying to find a new primary care physician since I lost faith in the old one before this roller coaster ride I've been on for the past few months. I am not taking any pain medication. Not on any prescription medication at all. I take iron, B12, C, and a daily multi vitamin to try and build my blood back up.

It's sad when you say you have gotten used to pain, but I have learned to accept the dull ache that is there all the time. The random stabs are concerning. I will press on in finding a primary care physician that will work with me to find out what the issue is.

Thank all you ladies for your insight. I know two surgeries in 10 days is a lot to handle, but one would think I would feel different by now. I wish you all well in your daily pursuits!

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

Bevy, since your surgery have you had your iron levels checked. Not all of the time but most times there's no need to continue taking iron pills. Too much iron causes problems. My doctor had me drop my iron pills right away

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

You may want to try physical therapy to your pelvic floor. I'm getting it now- 10 weeks po and still had pSin. It turned out the pain was spasms of my pelvic floor muscles. The therapy is quite interesting but veryyyyyy helpful. Good luck

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

I am still in pain @ 10 weeks post op & felt like I should be all better but reality is that I still hurt! Luckily I have wonderful dr thst said he will do everything in his power to find out what's wrong. He said that its not all in my head but he just doesn't know what's wrong. Go with your gut & if you think something is wrong then find dr that will listen to you! Best of luck to you!

I have had iron levels checked and they are low. That is why I am taking the iron daily. Trust me when I say I'd be happy to drop the iron!

Re: 17 weeks out, still in pain.

I just think after 17 weeks, my incisions should not still be this tender either.
