Hereditary (sp?)
I have a question. My mom had a hyst when she was 28 years old. And now I am 39 years old and seems like heading to the castle. She said she did not have heavy bleeding or pain. But the Dr. found her problem (fibroids) when doing her Pap. My Family Dr. told me a few years ago before I started having problems that since my Mom had one done, that most likely I had inherited her problem. I am an only child so no Sis. or Bros. but I had a friend that had a hyst and her 2 sis. had one and her Mom. Is anyone else in this situation? Could my Mom have passed this on to me?

(((diplady)))))))),
I don't know if you inherited your problem or not.
My mother had a hyst but for totally different problems.
I have 2 sisters ,both older, and neither have had a hyst.
So you have me stumped, maybe somebody will come who knows.
Best wishes,
Pamcat

Hereditary (sp?)
My mother had a hyst in her 30's- after a few lost pregnancies. My sis had one in her mid-40's with no children. My sis had almost the same problems I did and was an emergency TAH.
Here I am- midway between the 2 ages and had to have one.
My guess is that it is heredetary (sp) Something I've already told my dd.

I beleive YES. My mom had a TVH at 48, I am 31 and scheduled for a TVH (TAH) within the next few months. I was hoping that I could wait till I was a little closer to 40, but such is life. Everything that has happened to my mom has happened me. I do beleive this is hereditary.

Hereditary (sp?)
I agree that heredity may have something to do with it.
In my fmaily the women grow fibroids like they were a cash crop. Sis had a hyster at 37, Mom had one at 47, I had mine at 43.
On the flip side, my Mom is 70 and looks 50, so maybe her genes will come in handy after all...

Hereditary (sp?)
I believe it can be a hereditary problem. My mother had her hyst at age 29, and I followed suit having mine just a few days after my 32 birthday. My only sister - younger, has menstrual problems just like I did... and she looks to be headed in the same direction in the future. Also.. several of my moms sisters (mom has 12 siblings) had hysts for the same type problems.. and several of their daughters (my cousins) had hysts as well.
I do believe its a hereditary problem due to the history from my maternal side of the family. Just seems to be too strong with all of us having similar problems.. and so many of us ending up with a hysterectomy at young ages.

Hereditary (sp?)
The hysterectomy isn't hereditary! But the fibroids can be. My doctor told me to be sure to tell my daughter (when she's old enough...she's only 6 now!) because I had fibroids at 37 and they THOUGHT I had them again. Turned out to be adenomyosis. But remember, the diagnosis of fibroids does NOT automatically mean hysterectomy. In your mom's day it was much more likely but now... I had a myomectomy (removing just the fibroids) because I hadn't had any children yet and thought I might still want them. This time the decision was easier. I was 49 and had my daughter. Often though, at my age they will recommend waiting because fibroids often shrink with menopause. All depends. So no...hysterectomy isn't hereditary but the fibroids can be. It's the decision about what to do with them that varies from person to person. I wish you the best of luck!

Hereditary (sp?)
I am one of seven sisters ranging in age from 58 down to 43 and my Mother is still active at age 81. Mom never had fibroids and never needed a hysterectomy for any reason. Of my six sisters, only one had fibroids (as I did) and she had a hysterectomy a few years before I did. My other sisters are fine, no signs of fibroids. In my family, at least, fibroids are not hereditary.

Hereditary (sp?)
HI! I am not a doctor or genetic expert but I did some research on this stuff. First "woman trouble" was never discussed back when our grandmothers were our age. If something was wrong they just handled it or suffered in silence. So some people will have a difficult time tracing back. So in my family on the maternal side absolutely no female problems whatsoever-heart, blood pressure and cancer yes plumbing no. On the fraternal side no "major" plumbing but difficulties in getting pregnant and sustaining pregnancy. But no explanation why. I have severe endo (never asked the stage) and had cervical cancer. I also have a tumer that is described as a fibroid but then not sure as it was just found 2 months ago. So I specifically asked if my problems are hereditary b/c of my 2 daughters and I was told that yes the endo is hereditary but that cervical cancer itself isn't. Fibroids are hereditary also but again I am the first in the family. I personally would ask my family doctor about genetic stuff and peraps see a geneticsist<sp>. Hope this helped.

Hereditary (sp?)
Like other people on this site, i'm not a doctor, and therefore my reply is purely speculative, but i do believe that part of my problem was genetic.
My mum had fibroids at 29 and had been ttc for five years before she had me. Then she went on to develop endometriosis and had a hyst at 46.
I was diagnosed with endo at 17 and have had a TAH six weeks ago, at which time i was also diagnosed with Fibroids, and adenomyosis.
My mother had also had Graves Disease, a thyroid condition. Both this and endo are AutoImmune Disorders.
I have developed symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis, yet another AI Disorder.
I don't know for sure, but it seems highly unlikely that it isn't all connected in some way!!
