Travelling post op

Hi all,

I am having a TAH next week on the 30th. My dilemma is 2 weeks exactly after the date I have tickets to a Bon Jovi concert which is 3 hours drive away. Although I will not be driving, do you think I would be up for the journey or should I succumb to the fact that I will have to wait for them to tour Australia again?????

Re: Travelling post op

Hi,
There is another discussion thread about someone wanting to make an 8 hour drive to Chicago 3 weeks post op you might want to check out. I am 3 weeks out from a TAH and I am recovering really well and back to work part time, but riding in the car is not my favorite thing. At 2 weeks, I rode in a car for an hour and a half to see my son in a symphony (2 hours sitting) and I had a hard time enjoying it. I couldn't get comfortable, there was lots of walking and stairs, and then there's the constant issue of scheduling around BM's.

If you go, bring a pillow to put between you and the seatbelt, move around every hour if you can, and take some good pain meds!

Hmm...I dunno...At 2 weeks out after my TAH, I was having issues with my and not feeling too good on occasion. Climbing a lot of stairs will be an issue and you may be feeling quite tired. I don't think I could handle a 3-hour drive. If it were me, I would personally pass going to see a concert...even if it is Bon Jovi which would be soo awesome. But that is a decision you will have to make. You will know how you feel after you have had your surgery.

Hello,

I am almost 5 weeks out from my TAH and I still have a hard time with a lot of driving. And I haven't even started driving yet either. Waiting on my dr to give me clearance. I am not trying to discourage you and it may be that I am a slow healer. But sitting for any long length of time in a car it seems makes my incision hurt. I am getting better but at 2 weeks, I was literally in my bed and just getting up to do my walking around the house and to go to the bathroom.

Remember also that you only have 1 chance to heal right! My mom had this surgery twice...and she told me to rest as much as possible because you can get adhesions and then you may have to do another surgery.

Is there a way that you can postpone??
