drug side effects
I scheduled for TAH on 10/01. I don't like taking medicines that make me feel "weird". Was wondering what kind of side effects (other than nausea) some of you experienced on the different pain medicines you took.

drug side effects
Hi there!
I didn't have any side effects from the meds I was on. I'm not sure what I was on in the castle, but I was sent home with percocet. I'm like you; I don't like to feel 'goofy'.... The percocets did not alter the way I felt at all. They took the edge off of my post op pain.
If you know of certain meds that make you feel weird, be sure to mention that to your DR; they have many choices when it comes to pain management after you leave the castle.
Best wishes to you on October 1st! You'll be a new very soon!

drug side effects
Hi pgood,
I had a morphine pump in the castle, and like Toonces, was sent home with Percocet. But, after a couple of days I started to itch like crazy, and finally figured out that it was the Percocet. My doctor changed me to Darvocet, which isn't quite as strong, and the itching stopped.
Be sure to ask your doctor what the possible side effects could be for whatever he prescribes for you. You'd think I would have realized that my itching was coming from the Percocet, but I didn't - brain and all, and I just kept on taking it until I had scratched myself raw!!
I wish you the best for your upcoming surgery.

drug side effects
Hi
I was given percocet and that made me really lightheaded and feeling out of it. I do not normally have reactions to any drugs. It did not seem to help the pain much anyway. They gave me toridol in the hosp. (injection in rump) and that did not cause any symptoms. At home I took 600mg motrin. My experience was though, that nothing I took really took pain away. It wasn't that bad though even not taking anything. The pain that was the worst was from the incision staples.

Hi pgood!
I had the morphine pump in the hospital and I loved it! But then I was very familiar with it as I work with them on a daily basis. I did begin to itch however that night, and they couldn't tell if it was from the morphine or the antibiotic. But benedryl took care of that right away.
I came home on percocet and used it for about 10 days or so, it was great at taking care of my pain, and I didn't have any reaction to it at all - but then I have used it in the past from injury's.
Best of luck to you, and they should discuss all of this with you in your pre-op. There are many solutions to pain control out there, and your doc will see to it you have the right one.
