cant pee after surgery

Yesterday was my surgery. I was supposed to go home this morning. They took by cathefer out and I went 6 hours wothout peeing. Then they did a catheder to drain my bladder. I am finally able to Pee, but I have to concentrate and try will hard to make it come out. So they are keeping me another night for observation. Other than issue the pain is not too bad. Good luck sisters

Re: cant pee after surgery

A trick that I have read on here was to blow through a straw. I don't know why it works but it does.

Re: cant pee after surgery

I had the same issue. My nurse gave me a bottle of warm water to squirt down there. It worked enough to release some pressure so that I could sleep. I'm one week post op today and everything is back to working just fine.
Good luck!! Wish I knew the straw trick a week ago!

Re: cant pee after surgery

I went home with the catheter. I was really upset that I was going home with it, but once home, I was glad I didn't have to keep getting up!

Re: cant pee after surgery

I have the same issue, surgery on 10/3 catheter came out 10/4 and really have to concentrate to go pee. I find I have to sit there and it dribbles out. My dr said they did a lot about the bladder and to make sure I didn't hold it for fear it would burst. They were also going to send me home with foley, but I've been able to dribble. Can't imagine lying in bed so I'm opting to sleep in recliner and run to bathroom frequently. I'm hoping this will pass really soon.

Re: cant pee after surgery

I barely slept the night I spent in the hospital because my bladder was so uncomfortably full. I kind of got into a rhythm of doing deep breathing exercises while on the toilet, and managed to get a lot out, but then had to go again after washing my hands in warm water I'm 2 days post op and it feels like I'm fully emptying my bladder now when I go. It's tough at first!! It will get better, promise.
