Dizzy and off balance

Hi Ladies,
I had my LATVH on May 15th. Recovery has gone incredibly well, until last night. All of a sudden I was dizzy and off balance, today it is worse. I don't feel faint just dizzy. No pain meds for over 36 hours. Anyone having this problem or can offer some insight?

My post-op dizziness was caused by vertigo from the surgery, but another poster here at hystersisters had post-op dizziness associated with anemia. You might want to call your doctor and ask if you need blood work done.

The dizziness is awful. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you. I had blood work on Wed. maybe something will show up there. When you say you had vertigo from surgery, what caused it?

I would double check with your doctor. I had dizziness post op because of anemia, dropping blood pressure when I stood, hypoglycemia, racing pulse, and on and on! Each reason had to be treated sperately and I can still have issues for all of the above including sinus issues but no longer have problems with anemia.

Try to stand up carefully and slowly and be careful when bending over. Be careful driving (I was not allowed to for six months as some of the dizziness was accompanied by blacking out).

in there!

The doctor said most likely debris was dislodged into the inner ear during surgery.

Do you get dizzier when you tilt your head back and look up?

I went to the DR this week for the dizziness. I am still anemic and also have an inner ear infection. They gave me some meds. for the infection and one for the dizziness. I would atleast call DR with your symptoms. best wishes

I felt dizzy after getting up out of bed for the first time after surgery due to a lot of blood loss. Right now I'm still taking iron pills. If I sit down and get up quick, everything seems like it is spinning. The dr. said it's a combination of the anemia and blood pressure dropping when standing up. If it still bothers you, maybe you should go to an ear dr. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Ladies, I talked to the Doc today. She said the pain meds and the anethsia is still working its way out of my body. The past few days I slacked on my water. So I mega hydrated today and feeling so much better. It makes sense the water helps flush it out. I've learned my lesson, no less than 12 glasses of H20 a day.

Dizzy and off balance

At five weeks, I am still fighting the dizziness and lightheadness. Yesterday it was bad enough that I got nauseous and spent a good portion of the day throwing up. Didn't dare attempt to drive myself anywhere since everytime I stood up or moved much, I would feel like the room was spinning. Called the dr's office again...of couse no chance of speaking to the dr, just the NP or the PA...and still get the same lines ---anesthesia can last in your system for up to 90 days, could be due to blood loss during surgery, could still be the anemia, possibly low bp, possibly low blood sugar. At first I was told to drink plenty of fluids to keep my BP up....that's not a stretch as I drink plenty of water, about a half gallon of iced tea a day, lots of diet 7-up when I feel yucky. Not taking any pain meds, so Idon't think that could be the cause. I just wish I had an answer. It's getting frustrating.

I am also experiencing a bit of vertigo from the surgery, but in my case I had just recovered prior to surgery from 2 weeks of vertigo due to a cruise. Timing was not perfect, but I never dreamed that my history of vertigo AFTER getting off a cruise ship and lasting approximately 2 weeks would be re-activated by the surgery. My time in the recovery room was doubled due to the vertigo, and it wasn't pretty. It has been an inner ear problem for me when it comes to cruising, according to my ENT, and I believe the anesthesia just got things going again. So, I am careful at this stage to not go nuts with the pain meds, have been eating lighter meals to avoid an upset stomach, and found that I can't read newspapers or magazines without feeling like my head is spinning. Computer time is limited. It is frustrating because while I am going through the blahs of vertigo, I should be focusing on the TAH BSO itself. I wish everyone good luck...it is not fun.
