A&P Repairs

This probably isn't the right board for this but I just had A&P Surgery. I was scheduled for a Hyst. but changed my mind about a week before because I felt it wasn't necessary. I was only doing it cause I felt my family was complete. I am 99% sure I don't want anymore but haven't been to my 6 wk. checkup to ask my Dr. if it would be a bad idea to become pg agin. I'd really like to hear that I shouldn't have anymore kids! All I know is I don't want to go throught this again. Recovery has been long for me. No pain anymore but I still have a catheter (4 wks. later) and have bowel problems and such. And still bleeding. If anyone has had this surgery w/o a hyst., what was your recovery like and wer you advised not to get pg again? Just wondering.

A&P Repairs

Dear Angela,

I'm glad you're recovery is going along well. You might find the answers to your question at this website: http://pages.prodigy.com/prolapse.html/

Most of the women there have opted to NOT have a hyst (each for their own very valid reasons), and they would know more about the repair procedures you had and what to expect in the way of pregnancy afterwards...

I am sending huge cyberhugs your way

A&P Repairs

In 1998 I had a bladder suspension thru the abdomen and an A & P repair for cystocele and rectocele....without the hysterectomy. Not because I wanted more children, but because I felt it was the right thing for me to keep my body intact. I have never had any problems that way. My gyn wanted me to learn to self cath and removed the foley the next day. Whenever I sat on the "hat" at the hospital(the container they use to measure urine"my stitches around the back of the vagina hurt so much I was unable to pee and I had so much pain I couldn't self cath. So I got a bladder inf and had to go home with a foley. I had the foley for another week, but when it was removed I was able to go okay. The pain from the A & P repair though, was the worst. It took weeks until I could control my urine flow and did not have pain from the a&p repair. Now I have the uterine prolapse and there is no urogynocologist within 100 miles. No gyn around here will consider the uterine suspension and I talked with the insurance about it and they won't pay. So I guess I am looking at a hyster, probably Apr 26...so may I should have had it done in the first place. Hope you are feeling better by now. You are not alone.
