panic...

Two days until I go to the "Castle" and I'm second guessing my decision. Having LAVH, had to decide if they would take the ovary (only have one). I'm sure I will have them take it, I just wish I felt more confident now as I did when I made my decision. I've posted before about HRT concerns and many replied with their experiences. Do you think I'm second guessing just because it's finally getting down to the wire?

Yep, it's second nature to second and third quess ourselves. I'm sorry you are still having trouble with this. To re-enforce your decision get out your pro and con list.

Have you asked your doctor what she would do if it was her?

You know you just have to make the best decision for yourself at the time. Either way I don't think you are making a wrong decision. You're already in menopause. If you have your ovary taken you may need a patch for a year or two. If you keep your ovary and have more menopausal symtoms that you can't stand, you may need a patch for a year or two. You know what I mean?

I would think that your doctor would be for the removal because of the cancer history and your age. Can your doctor take a peek with the scope to see how the ovary looks while you're on the table?

Well, I know how important it is keeping a vital ovary, even if it's getting tired....but because of the history and being in menopause already I think I would opt to have it removed for my safety. It's a tough call, but there's no real right or wrong answer here, unless your ovary is not healthy.

I'm sorry I really am . I'm sure I will give up the ovary, it's just what goes with it. Going on HRT or not, what kind if I do. I'm sure I will be deciding on that as they wheel me into surgery.

I did not make my descion about ovaries untill just a day or so before my surg. I was so undecided, and scared about HRT. But after getting great info here(I found out about bio-identical hormones and that made alot of sense to me and I discussed with doc and the compounding pharmacist, who eased my mind, educated me, and made me feel I had a good team on my side to help me thru the hormone jungle) and reading more about the pros and cons, I said "take them", and it was a good thing because it turns out she would have had to remove anyway....they were not ok.

This way I was prepared and had my HRT with me at the castle and started taking immediately and have felt wonderful on them. Now I wonder why I was so agonized and scared over the descion. But I guess it is the fear of the unknown, and wanting to do the best thing. Which is different for each person, and only you can decide what is right for you.

At your age you might have that ovary that you left in there go bad anyway and you would have to have these decisions to make all over again. Remember that ovarian cancers is one of the hardest cancers to dectect. When my mom had her hyster about 30 years ago they left a part of an ovary and it quit after 6 months and then 25 years down the road she ended up with ovarian cancer.

I know that it is a hard decision but I am sure if you talked it over with your physician they will let you know and you might not even have a decision, they might just have to take it anyway like they would have mine....had to much endometriosis to save them.
