Sick of being worried - health anxiety stinks

I have had health anxiety since my daughter was born. Usually it is pretty manageable. But this surgery has knocked me for a loop. For weeks before surgery, I obsessed about DVTs and PEs.

I never even considered a drug reaction and the weird crap that ended up happening. Now I am still dealing with some unknowns about that.

Tonight I read about yet another hystersister who had a DVT at nearly 4 weeks. Since my med reaction gave me neuropathy leg pain - I am starting to be paranoid about that again.

It used to be that my fears were irrational. But now they are real and valid. And I am soooo sick of it!!! I want to be better physically and mentally - and I feel like that is just never going to happen

Re: Sick of being worried - health anxiety stinks

Hi Cheers,
Anxietys the pits.It will latch onto anything to get a reaction from you if you let it.
Don't let it.someone told me that either it will make a monkey of you ,or you can make a monkey of it.
In other words, don't let it become your master.
And its hard. But you have to distract yourself whenever it starts to lead you on.
And I know how hard this is,believe me.
Let yourself believe that everything's going to be OK now,and that you're getting well and stronger.
Even if you don't quite believe it.
Stop it in its tracks, and find something you enjoy doing, and try and become absorbed in it.
Hope you're feeling a bit better soon.Take care.x

If you suffer from health anxiety, spending time in this post op forum might not be a good idea...
Maybe you should take a break from it for a while... just a suggestion, but reading about other issues surely is probably not helping.

I also have quite a bit of health anxiety and google is NOT your friend! =) I say that but I still spend a lot of time on there. I don't know if you have a faith belief, but I wanted to share what helps me. I remind myself that God is in control and I can rest assured that He will bring me through one way or another, nothing happens without His presence.
