Re: Surgery Thursday,ok to take a stool softener tonight?

Hello notreadyyet,

My pre op instructions from my doctor encouraged his patients to use a gentle laxative for 3 days prior to surgery so the bowel is pretty much empty before surgery. I know all doctors are different and some want ladies to do an actual bowel prep. I had my surgery on 2nd March and made sure I was empty as after surgery my bowel goes to sleep and takes a while to get going again, I didn't want anything sitting in there from before surgery.

I hope this helps with your question and I wish you all the best for your surgery.

Take care

Re: Surgery Thursday,ok to take a stool softener tonight?

I had to do a complete bowel prep, Yeh another thing my lovely hubby put on facebook him laughing at my running backwards and forwards to the toilet for four hours the day before surgery.

I think the Gas pains are inevitable and just seem to be part and parcel. My doctor never told me about this and I hadn't found this site, I only fund out about them as my half sister had a hysty years ago and she told me to expect them or I would have wondered what on earth was going on.
Its easy to say don't worry about it as its not that bad, put it this way it aint gonna kill you but yes it is uncomfortable and really just a big pain in the bum on top of the pain of just having your uterus removed.

It is a pain when your regular (i am too, never constipated) and through all the worry and stress it stuffs up your BMs, I bet some stool softener will be fine for you to take but if in doubt call up your Dr.

Big hugs to you for Thursday, see you on the other side
