Fish line sticking out of my belly

I found an old thread here that showed several women back then had this too but it is too old to reply to and I wanted to ask those them if they ever disolved/fell out or if all of them ended up having to go back and have the doctor remove them.

The glue on one of my three lapro incisions came off today and I feel/see a piece of fishing line (less than a quarter of an inch long) sticking out of the healed wound.

Doctor did not mention needing to have stitches removed. I thought she said all were dissolving.

Have any of you had the one's sticking out dissolve subskin and fall off or did they have to be manually removed?

I am going to see my doctor this afternoon and although I had been excited about that, the prospect now of having this stitch pulled out or cut out is terrifying me. Would like to know what to expect later today.

Re: Fish line sticking out of my belly

HI...I had one sticking out of my bikini line incision from my hematoma removal..I waited for it to dissolve and it didn't so I just clipped it. You could ask your doctor or talk to a nurse in your doctors office and see what they say... Good luck!

Re: Fish line sticking out of my belly

Go to the doctor to have him/her clip it. I had one as well and was watching it. I should have made an appointment to have it clipped and I didn't. Eventually, the skin got infected and I needed to go on antibiotics. When it got infected, the thread went back into the wound and I haven't seen it since. Everything has healed up nice but when I think back, I should have gone with my intuition and had it cut off.

Re: Fish line sticking out of my belly

Have had tons of these... doc clipped them the first time then told me when I get more to go ahead and clip them myself, but personally would not have felt comfortable doing it the first time by myself...
best of luck!

Re: Fish line sticking out of my belly

Those who were saying clipping it was the answer win today's prize ---> (a smile)

The doctor clipped it to be flush with my skin and said it will be fully absorbed in time. If others appear under the remaining incision that is still under glue, to just do the same or come back in and she will clip it too. My incisions "look great".

WHAT A RELIEF!!!! I was imagining pulling, bleeding and/or cutting. This was a MUCH easier path than the path that my fears led me on.

Re: Fish line sticking out of my belly

Eight Week Update: Of the two incisions that had line sticking up before we cut them short, one incision's scar covered over its suture and it has never been seen again.

The other incision's suture was sticking out higher again and was catching on clothing so the doctor clipped it back last Thursday to below skin line. She said it will continue to push itself up and out.

Tonight, it is barely again above the skin line again. It is sparkly in the light (as fishing line is) and has gunk adhered to it that she said was proteins, etc. There is nothing wet or gooey. If I wiggle it I can see the hole it is nested in as it pulls away from the four sides of it. A light tug shows it is still firmly attached to something.

Leaving it for now. I have another exam in 9 more days to have the cervical sutures checked. Hoping the incision suture makes its way out altogether by then. If not, will need to have it clipped short again.

Re: Fish line sticking out of my belly

My Doctor removed mine. I drove an 1 1/2 hour to her and she put me up on her table, took out one stitch from each side of my incision and then said she was done, this was at day 10.
Hope that helps you. Hope all is well with you .
