Wedding 10 days post-op!

Hi Sisters
My hysterectomy is schelduled for the 5th of October & I have a wedding to go to on the 15th! Do you think I'll be okay to go or not? If I don't dance & leave early would I be okay? At least I would be present! I feel kind of obligated to go because it's a relative getting married.I haven't told any of my relatives anything about my surgery because I don't want to ruin the "wedding party mood" with bad news & I don't know if I want them to know. Also I'm not sure I'm up to having a lot of visitors at the hospital(I have a big...family) My immediate family knows I'm having surgery but not Uncles, Aunts, Cousins etc. Any suggestions from anyone?
Mori.

Wedding 10 days post-op!

I had "the works" (total abdominal hyst) and I am 8 days post-op. I went to a movie tonight and had dinner out, but I was moving slow and careful. You will not be able to drive, so you will need to ride with someone. There is really no way to tell if you will be feeling up to it, but I know I am okay at day 8, as long as I am careful and rest all day before/after I do anything. I get worn out easily. I hope your recovery goes as well as mine and you can go. You should decide what to tell them just in case you can't make it. You don't want to risk setting your recovery back if you aren't truly up for it. I wish you the best!

Mori,

I agree with Spaceytracey, think about what you will tell them if you find you aren't up to attending. I don't think I would have been able to do it at ten days. I went to the doctor for staple removal on day 9 and was exhausted after the 60 minutes it took to ride there, wait, be seen and ride home. I know I would not have been able to sit upright for any great length of time and certainly not on hard, straight-backed chairs.

You may find that you can go for a little while. If you are not able, don't feel guilty. This is a big surgery and it is important that you take care of yourself. You could just tell the bride and groom that you are not feeling well that day and expalin the rest at a later date. I think they will understand once they get the whole story and appreciate that you didn't want to distract from their day with your own concerns.

Good luck to you and worry about this a day or two before the wedding. Right now you need to put your energy into positive thoughts and your own needs!

Good luck to you!

Wedding 10 days post-op!

Hi,

I definitely wouldn't have been up to a wedding at 10 days post-op. Sitting for more than 20 minutes was very uncomfortable, and I was still dealing with overwhelming fatigue which would hit without warning. Just taking a shower was exhausting!

If it were me, I'd just tell them the truth. I'm sure they would understand. You have your own health to think of, which comes before anything else. You only get one chance at a good recovery.

s,

Lisa

Wedding 10 days post-op!

At 10 days post op (TAH/BSO) I went to a graduation party at my brother's home. I was able to sit in a recliner, which I know you won't be able to do, but I had no problems and was comfortable. If you decide to go to the wedding, make sure there is someone there who can take you home if you feel the need to leave.

Wedding 10 days post-op!

I went to a cooking school 11 days postop and was able to walk around some but the standing waiting for the doors to open was a pain. I did ask to be let in the auditorium before everyone else so I could sit down, other than that I was fine.

Wedding 10 days post-op!

We had my dd 4th b-day party when I was 10 days post-op (I would not advice doing that to anyone). I did ok, but I was tired and very uncomfortable, every hour felt like 2 or 3. Just make sure you dh knows that when you want to go home, it time to go now!!! I hope you feel good enough to go.

Wedding 10 days post-op!

At 10 days post-op, I was able to be up-and-about for an hour or two at a time, but I was in "slo-mo". I'd probably RSVP "yes", but be careful about pushing yourself. If you don't feel able to attend, your family can make apologies for you without casting a shadow on the day. Think about what it means - showering, dressing (make sure it's something loose), car trip, ceremony, post-nuptials greetings and cake, etc., another car trip. I found that just showering and dressing sometimes caused me to break out in a sweat! Take care and if you're up to it, enjoy your foray back into the world!

Wedding 10 days post-op!

At about 14 days post op I was getting restless and DH took me out for dinner. I had a good time and luckily the restaurant had comfy chairs. Except that they were on wheels! DH went to the mens room and I tried to use the arms of the chair to lift myself and my chair kept slipping! kind of embarassing. anyway... I would rsvp and play it by ear. definately let the couple know your situaton, I am sure they will understand.
