Ouch. Rib and back pain?

Hey all. I am 25 and had a dvh almost three weeks ago. For the past few days I'm finding I'm in huge amounts of pain. Under my ribs and in my lower back. Is this my organs finding their new place or...? Very confused and in some definite need of this weight off my shoulders! Plan to call the doc and see if I can get some answer but would love feed back from you ladies as well. Thank you

Re: Ouch. Rib and back pain?

You could be experiencing your first PMS after surgery. Mine was about 3 weeks and was awful. I curled up with a heating pad for a few days and rode it out but it was miserable. Hopefully you fair better than I. I had never had never had PMS before so having it after surgery was a pretty interesting experience. I had a sacralcolpopexy so I had back pain that was associated to where they maneuvered around my sacrum to tie the mesh, but if I hadn't had that I am sure my back would have hurt anyway from the PMS.

Pms after surgery?!?! Goodness. Quite possible but I've never experienced it. I guess in a week is when my normal cycle would hit so... Very likely! Thank you! And good to know I am not going crazy!

Re: Ouch. Rib and back pain?

I thought it was so weird and my doctor chuckled a bit and told me that removing the uterus creates some really interesting ripple effects in the body and the hormones and everything just battle the remaining terrain until they find balance again. Stock up on whatever makes you happy and ginger ale or the like because the nausea was insane. Hopefully you don't get that. Also of you can take ibuprofen. I am allergic to ibuprofen so I was on my own. This is also the time my emotions got really crazy... I'm not trying to freak you out... I was super hormonal and that has not changed that much. I'm hoping it tones down when I am able to exercise again but for now I cry about half the world and I am mad at the other half. The human body is super fun.

Re: Ouch. Rib and back pain?

Sounds like u had gas pains. During surgery they pump u full of air to see the organs more clearly and have more room to operate. My last few laproscopic surgeries they got most of the air out, but this time around they did not. Everytime I moved around the pain would come - gas under my collar bone, rib cage, shoulder and lungs. This pain was far worse than incision pain too!!
The nurses at the hospital told me my body had to absorb the gas only time would help. OUCH!

Re: Ouch. Rib and back pain?

I am on the 4th week after my surgery. I too am having pain on the right side of my rib cage. This concerned me because it is in such a generalized location. My GYN said to let my Primary know about and keep a look out about the Gall bladder (which won't be until next week).

After doing some research, this seems like its a common occurance due to the gas they fill you up with. I am expecting it to go away in a couple of weeks. Hopefully no other complications!
