Shouldn't i be feeling menopausal? 4wks post op

I had a TLH on Dec 29th both ovaries gone so technically i shouldn't have any more hormones right? Before the surgery I was having bad anxiety, night sweats and hot flashes along with my fibroid symptoms (irregular bleeding, bloating, and pain). Now I am feeling nothing, which is great mind you - just not what I expected. I realize I need to talk to my dr but I dont see him for two weeks and i thought y'all might have some insight to this. Thanks!

Zan~ Are you on HRT? I started mine in the hospital. I had TAH both ovaries removed and have been very comfortable as well. I was thinking it was the HRT.

It took at least 5 weeks before my hot flashes/vaginal dryness set in and I decided to try low dose HRT, which has alleviated these symptoms. I now feel more like my old self once again (if not better!)

Hi Zan
It sounds like you're one of the lucky ones whose body has stored up estrogen to last you for a while. Without ovaries you will at some point experience menopausal symptoms, but women differ in the amount of estrone their bodies have on hand. It can take some women 6 to 12 weeks for this store to be depleted.
It's great that you are feeling so good. I hope you continue to have a smooth recovery.

Shouldn't i be feeling menopausal? 4wks post op

Hi, I am 44 and had total hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries on Sept 29. I have few hot flushes, mainly at night but feel fine on the whole and am not taking anything although I have been advised to take HRT but don't fancy it! Will have to weigh up the pros and cons. As I feel so well I am loathed to upset the balance but am worried about any long term effects on bones etc. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I went on .05 estrogen patches at the hospital. I change the patch every 3 days (placed on my abdomen). So far so good - no hot flashes, though a bit of weight gain, a little depression, and insomnia. i think I'll be one of those who needs to see a HRT specialist
