mini periodsafter...???

I don't want to sound dumb but I have never heard of mini periods or was told of them from Dr. As mentioned in my first post (I'm new here) I went through menopause (NO PERIODS) 4 years before my surg of a partial hyst (have cervix), vaginal suspention due to a prolapsed bladder, which was also fixed (para vaginal). So now I've been hearing from some of you fellow "sisters" about these mini periods. My question is if I had NO period before my surg how in the world can I start haveing brownish discharge now?? I also have cramping 24/7 and stomach gets swollen.
How long will this last? I do see my Dr. this Thur for my one year check-up from surg (1-29-08) Hopefully my questions will be alswered. I'm 54 and this July will be 5 years since my last period (natural menopause)

mini periodsafter...???

Hi Deb,

I'm sorry you're going through this - pain and not knowing is so difficult! I'm guessing cervix is the spotting?

Let me tell you my experience, I'm 37 and had LSH (uterus only) last year Oct 2007. I went through terrible night sweats and signs of menopause for 2 weeks til my ovaries kicked back in. Doc said no such thing as surgical shock of ovaries... my sisters here said, oh yes there can be.

Mini Periods - I have had them since my hyst. I bleed, that brownish discharge for a day or two once a month. Always more pain a day or two previous, just like a period. Well Doc did admit (but didn't warn me) that there could be some edometrial tissue left at the top of the cervix, which could respond to my ovaries and bleed a bit each month.

Now I am 4 days post of from having my cervix and left ovary removed. I should not have mini periods any more.

so I'm not sure if your mini periods sound like mine... if you're having them 24/7 with pain... I'm glad you're going to doc. Please keep us posted.

You're in my thoughts.

Must go rest more now. ~ Sue

mini periodsafter...???

Sue,
Thanks you so very much for your info. I do have many questions to ask Dr. and hopefully can get some answers. This is very fustrating to say the least.
Hope you're doing well, I also wish you the best.
I do have a question for you...the removeal of your cervix and one ovary was that due to your mini periods (since you did have a partial hyst) and what was your Dr.'s option on this? Thanks

mini periodsafter...???

I haven't been on the computer since yesterday morning... sorry I'm just getting this.

the reason for my surgery was because of chronic pelvic pain. almost 4 years now. first I had 2 laparoscopic surgeries which they did lysis of adhesions. Didn't work. went for 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions, had an mri and diagnosis was unanimously adenomyosis... which is pretty much endometriosis confined to uterine walls. couldn't take the pain anymore and finally had uterus removed oct '07.

I have had minor relief of this unrelenting pain after each surgery, but none of it lasted for long. I also have fibromyalgia, and have since found out this complicates everything!

so, I've been back to doc twice over last year, not much left but take ovaries...

finally - around nov/dec the pain got a lot worse.

Cervix was removed because of painful sex, and constant pain in that area. When doc did my exam, I just about jumped off the table when he palpated cervix... so, bye bye cervix... mini periods was not the reason

Ovary, is because the majority of the pain has always been of the left side, shooting down my leg and everything. Ovary was more my decision and doc agreed. I still have my right ovary.

Well, that's the 'short' story... did that help?

You're appointment is tomorrow right? Please let me know what doc says. Hope I can help somehow.

~ Sue

ps- Healing is slow going, but I am taking it very easy this time... I so want to do my part to heal right. No lifting, lots of rest, etc. thank you for your thoughts.
