Re: gas pains galore

In the beginning when I had them real bad, my sister who is a RN said to lay on my left side. I can't remember if I actually did it tho, I think the walking fixed it for me.
Worth a try good luck!!!

Re: gas pains galore

I had this same problem for the second and third weeks after surgery and then it went away completely. One thing I did (but during the day, when I had the luxury of being home) I drank some warm tea and it led me very quickly to the bathroom! The pain went away but as we say in NY, oy vey maria. It will not be a forever thing but I remember it well enough to feel lots of sympathy. Walking around may help. It seems to be a part of the healing because as my doctor said, they have to do something during surgery that causes this and it takes a couple of weeks to 'pass.' (Well chosen word, ey?)

Re: gas pains galore

When I was in the hospital a physiotherapist visited me and suggested some exercises. I don't know if they do that in the US as well? There was one in particular for gas that I've found very helpful. Let's see if I can describe it.....

Lie on your bed then bend your knees. I find it works best to have your knees kind of lined up with your shoulders, so not close together but try with your knees together as well in case one way works better for you. Gently roll your knees to one side, keeping your butt and top half on the bed. Roll back to the middle then carry on to the other side. Then back to the middle, etc. The key is to do this slowly and gently. If you do it for a few minutes it helps the gas 'move'.

It usually works for me - I hope my explanation made sense.

Feel better soon!

Re: gas pains galore

I thought I was going to die from gas. I tried everything I found find and nothing seemed to get rid of it. It finally got better over time.

Re: gas pains galore

This past week at 21 days post-op I thought I was going to die from gas pains. It lasted a day and a half and nothing I took or did offered any relief. My DH was ready to take me to the ER because it hurt so bad. I was finally able to go to sleep and when I woke up the pain was gone.

I hope you feel better soon.

Re: gas pains galore

The gas pains were the worst part of the healing for me. I did drink a lot of warm tea. Mainly it just takes time for your body to get strait again. I was told to avoid dairy for a while & that did help a little bit. Hang in there. It really does get better.
