More Worries- Any Advice or Support Would Help Right Now
I am scheduled for my TAH/BSO on 6/14/06. Have been a mess waiting and worrying like all of us about this. I get a call today saying my mammagram came back with something suspicious on my left breast. I can't get in until May 23rd. Now something else to worry about. They want to do a Special view and an ultrasound of my left breast. I got so emotional with the girl that called to schedule me for my retake on my mamagram, and pleaded with her to get me in as soon as a cancellation came in. She said she would do her best. About 4 years ago I had to do a retake on my mammagram because of a shadow that showed up on the x-ray. Everything was o.k. then. I'm hoping this is true this time also. I can only take so much of everything, and keep it together. Any stories of retakes and everything turning out ok would be great to hear right now. Sorry i keep rambling on. I actually felt numb when I got the call today about this. Just needed to vent and thought about my sisters on this site. Take Care.

More Worries- Any Advice or Support Would Help Right Now
Oh I'm sorry you have added worry in your life right now. If it helps any I had to have a repeat mammo last year. I had the films taken the day before my DS 8th grade graduation. When they were finished, and they had trouble with the machine, my poor left breast had been compressed about 6 times! OUCH! I could hear them flipping the films on the light board, seemed like way more times than the # of pictures taken. The tech comes in and says thats all for today. I thought that seemed strange and confided in a friend that I had a feeling something was up. Well the next day we get home from the graduation and there is a message saying to call and schedule another appointment. My heart sank, and I got very nervous. I didn't tell DH because I didn't want to upset him if it was nothing. But I vowed to myself if he asked about it I would say something to him, They couldn't get me in till the following Tuesday (about 6 days out). When I went in they ended up rechecking both breasts. They cleared the right one with the first view, but not the left. Then they took another view, still coudln't clear it. So they took a 3rd filmand STILL couldn't tell if it was a nodule or not. So off to gert ultrasounded, where everything was fine. They couldn't find anything. I think what happened is they saw something on one view but not another, and I think they have to see it on both films to confirm or deny the problem.
So hope that helps reassure you that not every mammogram that looks suspicious is. I hope this is nothing more than a scare. Sending you a because I think you need one. Heck I think you need 2

Don't worry, I have had it happen all the time. But my people are smart and have a radiologist read the film before I leave, so that if they need another look they have it done right while I am still there. So I am always having second looks with ultrasounds (dense breasts that are hard to see anything with a mammogram). Nothing has ever been wrong.

I almost always get the 2nd check phone call. I ask the caller if the problem is with the right breast and remind them that I have a history of a calcification. I get re-checked and it turns out to be the calcification again. I stress out in the interim though.
Try to remember to take it a day at a time, and that worrying about it won't prevent it.

More Worries- Any Advice or Support Would Help Right Now
I've had a call back too and also had nothing out of the ordinary. My area that needed double checking is on the very outside edge of my breast so special effort and squishing (ouch) has to be done to get it on film. I got right in for my re-do and of course that worried too because they seemed to be in a hurry. At my last mammo went on and on about the fact that I hadn't had an ultrasound. She had me worried until I got my report - which was again normal. I think we are all more susceptible to worry right now. I try to console myself by the fact that there are umpteen more things that could be wrong other than someting awful. I hope you are feeling better. I've had a pile of health problems the last 18 months and I know how draining it can be. Sometimes I just feel worn down.

More Worries- Any Advice or Support Would Help Right Now
Hi - I see you are a 'fellow Floridian'
I'm sorry that you have this extra worry right now...I had a 'suspicious' mammogram last summer too. I went in for my annual exam thinking nothing of it, then left for a 2 week vacation out west. Wouldn't you know that 2 days into the trip, I get a phone call saying that I needed to come back for a 'breast compression.' I explained that I was out of town, but made an appt. for the day after I returned.
I tried very hard not to think about it and let it ruin my vacation...but you know that it's always in the back of your mind.
Anyway, had the compression done, and then had to wait for several weeks for the results!(long story) In fact, I was already on vacation again when I finally got the results...and 'everything was fine- see you next year"
It's very common to be recalled for a second look - especially if you have fibrocystic breasts. It's happened to many of my friends as well. That doesn't mean that it doesn't give you a scare - but try to remain positive. It's likely your doctor's office is just being better safe than sorry....and that's a good thing. Also, if they were really worried about it, they would have given you an immediate appt. for a re-check.
Let us know how everything turns out.

OH MY GOSH... the same thing happened to me. I'm having a TAH/BSO June 20. In the meantime...my report from my mammogram came back with something on my right breast. I have to have an ultrasound for that but have not scheduled it yet. I can only handle one thing at a time. I had a lump removed (non-cancerous) back in 1999.

I also had to go back for a second mammogram. That was this past fall. Unfortunetly my results were not okay and I then had to have a biopsy. The test results came back postive for DCIS a very early form of breast cancer. I had to put off my hysterectomy in place of a masectomy. If you don't get the results you are hoping for please let me know as I would be happy to talk to you about what I have been through. For me it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I had wonderful doctors, lots of support from friends and family and the surgery itself wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. In fact when I had my hysterectomy I also had my second stage of breast reconstruction done at the same time. Let us know how you do.
