Need help from my sisters (hair).....

Hey sisters, I am now 4 months post-op. I still have a bad pain in my left hip (cyst removed from left ovary) that I did not have before surgery, but other than that I am feeling great!

But I have noticed in the last week or so my hair is falling out way more then usual. Not in clumps but like shedding really bad. I read online this sometimes happens a few months after a major surgery.

I am hoping that is what it is. But I really worry because of the huge blood transfusion I had before surgery. Every time I sneeze I think I caught something from the blood.

So please tell me, anyone else having hair loss due to surgery? When will it stop/slow down?

Thanks sisters!!

I had hair loss after surgery too. Everytime I showered, the drain seemed to be full of hair, and I've had to clean my hairbrush more often. Mine started slowing down after about 4.5 - 5 months post-op. Hopefully yours will too.

Re: Need help from my sisters (hair).....

I lost a lot of hair the entire time I was sick before the surgery and after! I also had tried to dye it with one of my girlfriends for some fun about two weeks before my surgery...I am strawberry blond...I tried to go a dark brown (almost black) and I wound up with a very bright blond! It was the strangest thing!
My dad is in the medical field and my mom is a hair dresser so I lucked out having my parents to talk to...they told me that whenever your body is experiencing an imbalance that your hair will shed and it will also lack what it needs to dye, highlight etc...causing some craziness!!
They even told me that whenever your hair is having bizarre issues that are not normal for your head that it is a sign of a change in your bodies chemistry! Who knew??!!
The good news is that when you heal your hair will go back to normal...though in my case that just means it will just go back to being hard to handle and stubborn

Re: Need help from my sisters (hair).....

Me too and my GP also says its due to the surgery, although the gynae said it was a coincidence - but the GP showed me the bit in her medical book on it. Mine seems to have changed texture and it would seem I don't need the 'for greasy hair' shampoo at the moment, which is alright by me! There is also some info on this site https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/article_453640.htm talking about it. I have put off doing much with my hair (even though the greys are now coming through) until it has settled down. Hopefully it will calm down for all of us and Bravelillady mine like your is much better behaved at the moment so lets hope we can keep that aspect
