Doctor Appointment Today
I just came home from the doctor where I had a colposcopy. I was told that I have severe dysplasia - High grade. I had a biopsy to see if there is any cancer but will not know until next week. He seemed quite worried about it. Then he told me that I need either a Loop or a Hyst. Because of my family history of everyone dying of cancer and because I have 2 children, not planning on any more, he suggested a hyst.
What are your thoughts? Anyone been in a similar situation?
I am also thinking that a hyst would be the best option. He told me that we would leave the ovaries.
Thanks for the input everyone.
Keri

Hi Keri
So glad you found us! I highly recommend that you check out our Cancer Concerns forum here at Hyster Sisters. Here is the link:

Although I had a TAH/BSO, I did not have cancer. However, the ladies at cancer concerns are very knowledgeable and can provide lots of great support and suggestions.
Have you consulted with a gyn oncologist yet? Most of the ladies at cancer concerns highly recommend that you see a gyn oncologist if there are cancer issues. I actually had a gyn oncologist assist with my hyst since I had severe stage 4 endo. My gyn was trained by this gyn oncologist and wanted him to assist with removal of the deep endo implants. My gyn oncologist was GREAT! They are highly skilled surgeons and really know their stuff.
Keep reading and posting and we'll provide support any way we can!

Hi Keri,
I had two bouts with high grade cervical dysplasia. The first time around I had a cone biopsy and my paps were normal for 10 years. The second time I also had a cone and had clear margins but my pap done 3 months later came back abnormal again and so I had the hyst.
I agree with Beth about the Gyn/Oncologist. If you visit the Cancer Concerns board you'll find a number of ladies dealing with dysplasia.

Hi, Keri!
So sorry to hear about this concerning event in your life. I had several instances of dysplasia. My first one was treated with a cone biopsy and I did well for 10 years. Then I was treated 2 times with cryotherapy. Finally, this last time, the doc did a LEEP (also known as a loop) and we decided from those results that a hysterectomy was the best treatment option for me. Please remember that even if you decide to go for the hysterectomy that you need to be followed closely for your PAP's because there is a small risk of vaginal cancer.
My surgery went very well, I was able to keep my ovaries, and I am happy to report that I am feeling as good as ever and oh so lucky that it was caught before it became cancer.
I also highly recommend that you speak with a gynecologic oncologist. They really are the experts when it comes to female cancers and they are highly trained in the very best and most effective procedures/surgeries.
Good luck with your decision, and feel free to come over and visit us at Cancer Concerns. There are many of us over there who have been in similar situations.
