Post Hsyterectomy repeated surgeries

Hi I'm Owie Cowie...

I had a complete hysterectomy on January the 17 2006.The very next day I had to under go surgery again because I bleed out into my abdomen. I have had nothing but problems since. I startted with not being able to urinate. Its not that I didn't have too, it just hurt to much. I had to push down on my stomach to empty my bladder myself, and near the end of urinating I would get this sever pain in my bladder. I test after test done and it didn't show anything. They put me on Cepro, and a bladder analgesic but nothing worked. it's been over 2 months and I'm still in alot of pain.

The other problem I seem to be having is my internal stitches don't want to heal. At 9 weeks when I went for my internal my stitches where still visable. A week and a half ago I was doing yard work and pick up something to heavy and tore open my stitches. It felt like someone punch me in the stomach. I have had bleeding ever since (like a period). I thought my Dr. would have restitched it, but she feels it will heal on its own. I'm affraid of developing scar tissue from the incision if it doesn't heal properly. My Dr. said she has never experenced something like this with a women my age(36), she said its more likely to happen in postmenapasal women. Apperently there skin thins out from lack of estrogen and they have a hard time healing. I'm so frusterated and descouraged I don't I'm ever going to get better. I had this surgery because I had extremly bad endometriosis. I have had laporoscopy 6 times and its still continues to come back. My periods where very heavy and lasted for weeks and intercourse was out of the question it was too painful. I think I would rather suffer with that then what I'm going through none!!! I haven't had intercourse since my surgery and after the tear in my stitches she said another 4 months of healing. My bladder still is working properly.

I would be so greatful if anyone could shine a light on this proplem. If there has been anyone that has gone through this and over come it I would love to hear from you. I've just gotten so depressed and I'm convensed that I'm never going to be the same again. I think I made a bad choice. If my Dr. had of told me that all these this could have and propably would have happened, I never would have had the surgery. I have huge regrets!!!!

I guess the worst of it all is the stress it has caused my marriage. Men just really don't understand. Not mine anyways! He was great for about the first 6 weeks and than he started to grow impatient.

I would appreciate any support.

Thank you Owie Cowie

Repeated Surgeries

Although my problem has been mostly bladder and urinary tract related, I just had my fourth surgery in 3 1/2 months yesterday morning. It is very frustrating and I sometimes think I will never get better.

Have you sought out a second opinion? Also, did a gynecologist do your surgery or a specialist? And, what kind of tests have they done to make sure your bladder is okay?

My doctor blamed my pain and urinary problems first on the trauma from the hysterectomy, then on the mesh and then on the stitches from the Birch until about 10 weeks out of surgery when they did a CAT scan, cystoscopy, MRI, and IVP where they found out it was my bladder that was not working and one of my ureters.

I have not had any problem with the stitches, but the rest has been miserable. I am hoping and praying that yesterday was the last surgery I will need. If I were you, I would check with another specialist to make sure nothing else needs to be done to fix the stitches problem. Just letting them heal on their own doesn't sound right to me. Do you have any cream or medicine? Also, are you still on antibiotics? I would be concerned about infection.

I hope you get to feeling better soon! I am sending a big your way and I'll be for you! Please let me know if there is anything else I can do! I know how tough the road to recovery can be, but I am sure we will get to the finish line soon!

i have had similar problems. i hope and pray that you feel better soon. oooh! that bladder hurts, huh? it brings tears to my eyes! my doc told me that the blood in the abdomen is very irritating. it will make things hurt. has your doc given you pain meds? my dh wakes me at 5 am for mine. that way at 5:30, i can get up to pee, and get through it okay. i also limit my fluids after 7 pm. are you taking arnica pellets? they help the blood reabsorb. i have had some luck with them. i got them at a drug store. hugs to you. i know this hurts. i really believe that things will get less painful once all of our bruising is gone, and it will be less and less as the bruising gets better! take care sweetie. this may just be a lesson in patience. that is what i am hoping anyway.

just a suggestion...have you had an ultrasound done? my doc told me when there is bleeding into the abdomen, it is nearly impossible to get all of the blood out. they can see how much blood you have left to reabsorb with an ultrasound. i have one done every two weeks. might not be a bad idea! let me know okay? i feel for you!

Dear Owie-
Do a search on post op for marriage is a mess and read my first post. I am you all over again in March. Had surgery on 3/8, re-surgery on 3/10, fever and infection on 3/16, re-open wound due to huge abscess 3/18, finally got sewn up 3/27 and am starting my recovery all over again. I dread each time I have to go to the bathroom. Oh and my blood platelet level is way high, so the Drs are concerned. Just had another blodd test this morning. I am right there with you. I had cysts and pain for yrs, but I don't know if I would have had this surgery if I had known that it was going to be this bad. I hope six months from now I feel different about it. My husband is finally understanding the seriousness of the situation 9that and he went to Dr for depression, zoloft is helping) but we went thu a real rough time when I was at my worst. Read my posts and get back to me. I care. It has been great to have the support and I want to give some back. Hang in there. We will get thru this.

My heart goes out to you!

Hi pfeifferkat...

Thanks for replying to my post. Oh my god I'm so sorry that you have to go through that. That is my situstion I just didn't want to write it in my post. My husband wont help me either and we have three children7,5,and 4. My kids are more help to me than he is. I have called my mother and my aunt to come over and help me and he yells and swears at them and they leave. It's like thanks alot *** hole you won't hepl me and you scare everyone else away. I think that the lack of support from him is worse than all the pain and surgery. We are almost at divorce because of this and we have been toghter for 16 years. The fact that we haven't had intercourse for 21/2 months and know another 4 months has just really honkerblonked him off. Like some how this is all my falt. I am know taking antidepressents because of what he has put me through since my surgery.

Men just don't have a clue about the in having periods, babies, or abdominal surgery of this degree. They cry over a sliver. Big babies. I took my husband to my gyny> appt. I made him sit there while she examined me and she told him how sever it was and that we couldn't have intercourse, because I strongly believe that he thinks I'm facking or making all of this up.

Let me know how your doing. I'm so grateful to this websit, Its the only place that I can vent and people truly understand what your gowing through. Not that I want to see other people suffer but it's somehow comforting to know that your not alone.

Keep in touch. Nikki
