Frustrated by slow progress
Hi
Overall, I think I'm lucky with my recovery. No complications, not a lot of pain, incision looks good, no hormonal upheaval.
And yet, I can't help feeling that things aren't going fast enough for me. Can someone comment on this, even if just just give me a slap upside the head for being impatient?
Here are my issues:
Abdominal incision, vertical. Uterus gone, kept cervix and one ovary.
Not taking pain meds, having only the odd jab and twinge, often relieved by going to the bathroom.
Except that I get a huge, burning pain where my right ovary was removed. This began on the day of my surgery and has not improved one bit. I can't even tell if it's the skin or deeper inside! This pain starts shortly after I get up to walk or move around and I can't walk for more than about 8-10 minutes before I have to stop. Lying down brings almost instant relief. I'm probably not getting enough exercise because of this.
This is driving me nuts. When I mentioned it to my doctor weeks ago he said something about a lot of things having been tied off in there that need to heal. But no improvement after 3 weeks?
My other worrying symptom is bright yellow discharge, not a lot, with a slight odour. I called my doc and he gave me some antibiotics (without seeing me) and told me to go to the ER if I get a fever over the weekend. No fever.
I don't think that this has anything to do with the pain I described but it's another source of frustration (and worry - I take my temperature on the hour!!)
Can someone set this hypochondriac at ease?

Re: Frustrated by slow progress
I don't blame you for being frustrated; you should not still be experiencing this odd, right-sided pain three weeks out. Your doc doesn't seem to be full of information...
Here's a suggestion or two...
If possible, a half hour before you get up (and therefore somehow trigger this mysterious pain), take either tylenol or ibuprofen as a pain-preventative. It is always much easier to prevent the onset of pain than to try to eliminate it once it gets ahold of you. Do you have more powerful prescription meds at home? If so, perhaps try that instead of the OTC stuff. If you can control that pain, you'll be able to get up, walk and feel much better!
As for the discharge, well, I don't think that's normal, so perhaps you do have an infection of some sort that the antibiotics will take care of. Take the whole course and see how you do. Obviously, if the discharge is still present, call your doctor again and this time make a proper appointment.
I know it's frustrating, but it won't be like this forever! Good luck to ya!

Re: Frustrated by slow progress
i have seen people posting about the both things you are talking about. ive seen posts about a yellow discharge with odor when the stitches from the vaginal cuff are dissolving. and, ive also seen posts from women talking about the side where the most work was done having a bad burning pain. i dont know if thats your case but if you still dont feel right on monday, go with your gut and make an appt to be checked. it cant hurt and it will put your mind at ease.

Re: Frustrated by slow progress
I am posting all over about the burning pain because the doctor had no answers for me until I figured it out. mine may not have been the same as yours at all, but just in case ... it seemed to be primarily from all the nerve ending that were cut and were healing. Ice helped me beyond belief.
Like the others, I would definitely recommend seeing your doctor to rule anything else out. Let us know how it's going!
