Any ideas about recovery time with a LAVH?
Scheduled for LAVH on 7/3, MD says 2 wk recovery...sounds unreal after reading post here...I'm 54, not in the best shape, hypertensive and overweight...am an RN working with chronic psychiatric pts in a clinic..(I'm the ONLY nurse there!) pressure from admin to get back ASAP but have requested 6 weeks...I have the time banked so that is not the issue...any ideas about how long I should expect to be home? I know everyone is different, but most posts seem to be from TAH...any clues will be welcome, feeling guilty about asking for time off.....duh....not used to taking care of me! Help! Pat

Any ideas about recovery time with a LAVH?
Hey Pat, In my opinion, 2 weeks is not realistic. I had a LAVH on Feb. 15th. I am 38 and in good health otherwise. At 4 weeks post-op I was much better, but not well enough to work (although I don't work outside of my home) until 6 weeks. And I had an uneventful recovery. Everyone doesn't have that. I hope and pray you do.
At 2 weeks, I had not driven and wasn't cooking yet or shopping or anything like that. My husband and children helped with everything. Although I felt good, I was sore and tired alot and was told by my doctor no lifting, pulling or pushing and to take it extremely easy. After 4 weeks, I could do a little more, and was released at 6 1/2 weeks. Anyway, that's my story and I can't imagine why yours would be much different. Hope and pray that you do really well. Emily

Any ideas about recovery time with a LAVH?
Dear Pat: I too was in the same perdicement as you. I had a Hysterectomy Laporascopically. I also had my prolapsed bladder fixed. Yes I felt better and went back to work after 2 weeks. I did work 1/2 days for 1 week after returning. I am still not lifting but I felt the way you do. After reading all the stories I was scared also. It was really not that bad. I took pain medication for a couple of days and then after that I took Advil for about a week. I was only in the hospital for about 6 hours and went home. I slept on my stomach the day of the surgery. So dont worry it will better than you think. I had my surgery on May 19, 2006 and I feel great. Tina

Everyone is Different
Dear Pat, I was told to plan on six to eight weeks off work. So I put in for it and I had LAVH with a BSO and RCTL correction. I was feeling great and then day ten after surgery I hemorraged and had to go back to surgery because an artery had come loose. That was scary and also delayed my healing process. Then thirteen days later I hemorraged again and back to square one. You may feel good but please read the hystersister site on what you can an cannot do after surger. Take it easy and get lots of rest the first two weeks. I don't want to scare you but sometimes it can get complicated. Take it one day at a time. I get to go back to work on July 3rd and I feel I am ready but it has been a long recovery. I wish you the best and God Bless.

Any ideas about recovery time with a LAVH?
My dr. said 6-8 weeks for LAVH. I was able to do a lot by 4 weeks, but I would still get very tired. I think you could work at 6 weeks IF you take really good care of yourself and have no complications.
I aggree with yogajane to stay in your pjs and not too busy the first two weeks, then gradually do more. Don't mistake a good couple of days for being all healed and overdo. To overdo is to setback.
HUGS!

Any ideas about recovery time with a LAVH?
I had an LSH and today is my two week anniversary. While I am starting to do some work from home I poop out pretty easy - my hormones are a wreck even though I kept my ovaries. I have weird pains near my incision sites that really bother me - I have a funky heat rash on the back of my legs and have trouble holding a scratching position long enough for relief (grin). Yes, you will feel amazing at two weeks but take the time to recover. The biggest threat to recovery for us puntured princesses is boredom. We get bored and do more than we should then we pay for it later.
