Yeast

Hello, I have lost the old thread. Yeast infection post op + antibiotics for incision. Took 3 days Diflucan. Eat yogurt every day. Still yeasty and Dr and his Nurse haven't returned my calls. So obvi calling again first thing in am.

What I am wondering, tho, is this also an estrogen issue, and does the yeast hamper the vag cuff's healing? I am taking my Women's Multi + my Omegas.

For those Sisters who have suffered this horrible yeast, what have you done to end it? What is the longest, most frequent doses of Diflucan you all have been on? Have you all experienced pain from the yeast infection in addition to the itching and burning?

I love you Girls

Re: Yeast

HI -- prior to my surgery I battled re-current yeast infections for a good 4- 6 months after having a really bad strep infection that was misdiagnosed and I was on several different antibiotics for weeks. At the same time I was bleeding just about every day of the month which added to the discomfort. At first I thought what I was feeling was a UTI because I always felt pressure/frequent urination and burning with them, and only once did I have the 'cottage cheese' discharge most websites seem to list as the gold standard of a yeast infection. I also just felt really "yucky" in general and the last one I had spread to other areas. I was a mess. I never felt 'itchy' - I always felt burning - and very irritated- and at its worse, my stomach burned also.

I ended up cutting out sugar (as much as I could) for an entire week and that seemed to finally do the trick. I also ate Stoneyfield organic yogurt every day (look for yogurts that are LOW in sugar) and took 3 AZO for yeast a day, and acidiphillus, once a day, and did monistat 7 day for 14 days. (The 3 day monistat really irritated me).

For relief I soaked in vinegar baths. I used an OTC homeopathetic cleanser for the vaginal area called "Yeast-Gard" which I found at CVS. Another really important thing is to keep your whole area as dry as possible. Yeast loves moisture.

I had occasional flare ups until I had my surgery in late August and since then I have been fine- although now I'm suffering from dryness (new to me) which is very very uncomfortable also. UGH. If its not one extreme its the other!!

Good luck to you - I KNOW how awful yeast infections are - I was MISERABLE. Try cutting down on the sugar and see if that helps. HUGS!!!

Re: Yeast

That I have already done, and yes I have noticed a difference. Last night, however, I had to break down and eat a bowl of Fruit Loops. I don't even take sugar in my coffee anymore, just local honey.
