Am I the only one with the sex drive of an eighty yr old nun?
Ok I appoligize if there are any nuns here. Seriously I am only 39, I miss a sex life. My dh has been understanding but geee. I was doing ok, and this year has been hard, and I was hit with alot at once. My mother passed, alot of family issues related to that, we moved, so I quit my job, and I am not working again yet. My choice so far. My 2 children have had some health issues to deal with. Some were looking serious, but by the grace of God I think all will be ok. Things are now settling down, but.... I was on the climara patch and that was ok, but my breasts were growing at an alarming rate. At the begining this was good, because I had 2 sagging deflated ballons. So a litte was good. I look more normal now, but.... it ws getting a bit much again. I am only 5 ft tall, and I had a size H cup after I delivered my 2 children. Scary site lol. So I wasn't willing to go that big again. We have switched things around a bit. I was on the combi patch and that seemed to work ok, but the nun thing again. Hmmm so I called my old gyn, I am still working on getting a new one here. Tons of red tape with insurance..... He put me on the estatest HS. I took it briefly before but I had alot of headaches. Not sure if it really was that or not, so I am going to try again. I had went to my GP this week and explained my symptoms more hot flashes, not sleeping, no libido etc. She told me I better learn to live with it. *** and a woman no doubt told me. She gave me a consult to a gyn so we will see. In the meantime what does everyone else do? Take up knitting? Thanks for listening and any advic you can give

it sounds like the lack of sex drive is due to stress - not hormones. Please talk about all that you've gone through with your family doctor (they are usually better at looking at all of you - not just the GYN side of you). If it's hormone-related, your family doctor will be able to talk with you about that. If it isn't hormone related, then your family doctor can address that, too.

Am I the only one with the sex drive of an eighty yr old nun?
I understand totally what you're saying! I had experienced so much stress with family issues, career issues, financial issues, etc., all surrounding the time I had my hysterectomy and was trying to settle down my hormones! It got very difficult to determine what was coming from where. Even when things seemed calmed, the libido was gone. So I did keep trying with the hormones and I did finally find a combination that works most of the time. I also took the Estratest for a period of time but I needed the flexibility of being able to adjust the dosages of each of the ingredients individually so I asked my doctor to prescribe them separately. I take Estradiol (estrogen) and then use a compounded testosterone cream that I can apply or decrease as symptoms dictate. The testosterone DID make a difference in my energy level and with my libido (my DH is grateful!) There's another thread on this site dealing with sexual issues and the lack thereof. You might read articles on there. Don't give up!

Am I the only one with the sex drive of an eighty yr old nun?
Hopeful,
I can totally relate and actually feel as though my labido is less than one who's 6-feet underground. Is that graphic enough?! HA! I'm 44 and miss what labido I had pre-TAH. During a recent visit to my PCP, I finally mentioned it, and she suggested I return to my GYN. Fortunately, I was able to get a consult over the phone. After all, that visit would have cost me $50! Ugh! She prescribed Estrastat. It's been two days now since I started taking it. I'm not sure how long it takes to work, but I'm hoping the labido wakes up within a month. I hope you, too, get some relief soon!

Hopeful,
Your thread title made me hoot right out. LOL, I think a lot of us feel the same way.
It does sound like you have an awful lot of stress in your life, which doesn't help for sure. My libido isn't great but it IS better since I started progesterone (Prometrium). It took a few months to kick in though. I guess patience is the word. I know when I started it I had a headache off and off for a couple of weeks, part of the adjusting period, and that could be what was happening with your Estratest because everytime we change one hormone, we throw another one off. Don't give up though. You WILL feel better, just keep looking and trying until you find your balance. Good luck.

Bevanne,
What strength testosterone cream are you on? Were you a little nervous about starting it?
I plan to start mine tomorrow. Does is really help alot with your energy? How long til you saw a difference. At present, I am far more concerned about my energy level than my libido. I am @ my wit's end in that area-lack of energy, that is.
Thanks.

Sweet Pea - I'm on a 1% testosterone cream in a water-soluble base. I apply about 1/4 teaspoon to the labial area. I started out using it every day for the first month and applied it in the morning. I was a little nervous but desperation will give you motivation! After a month, I began going to every other day and eventually to just twice a week or so. The only negative I've noticed is a couple of facial break-outs. When I have more than one, I back off on the cream for a week and use up what's stored in my system. I noticed the difference in my energy level in just a few days. Also for energy, I have to exercise regularly and I take good supplements. Be sure you give the cream a good chance to work, at least 4 to 6 weeks or so. Hope it works!

Am I the only one with the sex drive of an eighty yr old nun?
Thanks for all the replies. I am sure stress is a bit of it, but I think hormones play a bit part. It really has taken a slow nose dive since surgery. I started on estratest now, so far so good, no headaches. I have an appt with a new gyn next month. We will see how that goes. I would like to seperate my hormones as I could adjust them when I know I need more. We will see what he has to say. I may have to go through a few to find someone I like. As long as I have something. Thanks for your help.
