A little freaked out by pre-op info

So I had my pre-op today and my doctor informs me that she plans on doing a vaginal hyster. but since I've had a C-section if there is alot of scar tissue she'll have to go back in through my c-section scar and do the sugery

She said 99% of the time it's doesn't happen but she just wanted me to know just in case.

Has anyone heard of this??

Re: A little freaked out by pre-op info

your dr has to tell you that because if theres any problems, it must be converted to abdominal. all lap/vaginal procedures should be informed of this. it usually doesnt happen. i wish you the best of luck with your surgery and recovery

Re: A little freaked out by pre-op info

I had a c-section in 1992 and was told the same thing before my vaginal hysterectomy, too. My doctor was able to do the vaginal surgery, although I had tried to mentally prepare myself for a possible TAH. What my doctor had said was that if there were a lot of adhesions he would want to have a better view of everything--so he could avoid problems.

Those pre-op conversations and forms can be a little intimidating, can't they?

Re: A little freaked out by pre-op info

I actually had a c-section and two years later I had a vaginal delivery. I was a little nervous about that but my doc said it would be fine and it was.

I guess they worry the scar from the c-section will tear but mine didn't.

Re: A little freaked out by pre-op info

My doctor told me the same thing because I have had tons of adhesions from other surgeries. They just tellyou what would happen in the worst case scenario, like blood transfusions or having to change how the procedure is done. They just want to make sure that you are as well informed as you can be Hope all goes well for you!
