Re: Constipation!

Hi, I feel your pain. i had surgery on April 6th and was doing good until a couple of days ago. Like you i tryed the natural way as well as stool softener. I got to the point of just doing a fleets enema. That worked in about 10 min. That was yesterday. I am still taking the softner and went on my own today. Best of Luck

Re: Constipation!

We are not sick of you!!! Call your doctor before you take anything stronger than a stool softner. You have to drink a lot of water with the stool softner. Just play it safe and call the doc to see what they say to take.

Re: Constipation!

I feel for you. I had the same issues and thought I was going to go crazy. I added a stool softner so I was taking 3 a day, plus I was doing Miralax and drinkng prune juice when I could. Walking around helps too. It will get better - know that.

I didn't think it ever would and I'm almost at 6 weeks and finally regular again - without the killer gas pains.

Good luck!!!

Re: Constipation!

I went through the same thing you did. However, magnesium citrate is some pretty strong stuff. I used just a pill form laxative and that worked just fine. I feel your pain. That phase of recovery was horrible! Good luck to you. It will all come out in the end!!!

Re: Constipation!

Try Peach Necter (from the organic food section at the grocery store) It's in a can. Works better than prune juice and definately tastes better. Still, call your Dr. and give them the heads up on what's going on. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Constipation!

Have to admit, the popcorn trick really helped and red seedless grapes (had me going to bathroom twice in a day) and cut back on painful gas. Be Blessed!

Re: Constipation!

I am glad the popcorn and grapes helped!!

I had some pretty bad constipation when I was still taking Lortab, not eating like normal, and I think my peristalsis just was still very sluggish. I can't advise anyone to do this without talking to your doc, but I took 1 pericolace tab every day (mild stool softener & very mild laxative) for a few days. It helps to drink at least 8 glasses of fluid a day and be up and active as much as you feel like. Of course, as everyone said, lots of fiber & roughage helps. I admit there were 2 different days that I used 1/2 of a Dulcolax suppository to get things moving better. It worked great. It's been 3 weeks for me, and I still feel gassy, bloated, and still not quite back to normal, but it's getting much better. Gas-x is definitely my friend too.

Re: Constipation!

Call your Dr First and see if it is ok to take a laxitive if all else fails. I agree that Mag. Citrate is pretty strong. If nothing else works ( I don't know how you react to fruit) try some dulcolax. If you want to stay natural and you like it get some Welch's grape juice. This works beautifully, Also the peach necter sounds much better than prune juice to me. I want to add that a lot of fiber will bind me up in a minute especially if it is a supplement. I don't know why. Hope this helps.
