Re: 2 weeks post-op, husband has had enough

I had my hysterectomy in May of 2012 along with repair for prolapse at the same time. And I just had a 2nd surgery on Dec, 2012 for a revision of the prolapse rectocile and a bladder sling. I have had the same problem with my husband. My doctor has also said to take it easy and if I do too much it will set my recovery back. I cannot lift heavy things like i used to or vacuum, sweep, etc. Those activities just do not help with the recovery. My husband was okay the first few weeks, helping me, doing housework, etc. But, after that time it looked like he got tired of helping and as he realized just how much work I had been doing, he just stopped doing it. He could not handle working during the day and coming home to do meals, housework, etc. If you have a relative or neighbor who could help out, try that. Don't over do it. You need to heal. And healing takes time. Good Luck. Annette

Re: 2 weeks post-op, husband has had enough

I had to train my boss for a month on what all I do and he declared to me, your job is boring. Yeah that's why you pay me to do it. I was lucky with my husband, he has been great and he said he didn't realize all that I do as well. The one thing he hates is cleaning litter boxes. I am 3 weeks post op, I discovered if I sit on the foot stool I could clean them without him going all nuts over it. Don't worry, I am not lifting anything still over 10lbs.

I'm glad your talk helped. I hope he's able to hang in there for the rest of the weeks. And I hope he has a lasting appreciation for what you do even when things get back to normal. Recovery is hard on the whole family.
