pain and bleeding

I am going on week 4 since surgery. (i think??) . Not sure if I overdid it yesterday. I started to spot a few days ago. went to dr and he checked me and said everything looked okay. do not know why I did it, but I did- went out to my garden and started to cut down some of my overgrown garden. nothing major, just a little here and there. the pain i felt about an hour later still is with me now. painful period-like cramps. and bleeding more now than ever. sat with my feet up rest of day. today is my first day back to work, and it is not going well. has this happened to anyone before? I just want to feel semi-normal again. I am not trying to be superwoman- just a woman. please help!! do not want to end up having to go back to dr or hospital!

Re: pain and bleeding

Hi Alwaysnomore! I had TVH. My dr said you can bleed for 6-8 weeks after surgery which is normal. But, you should not fill a pad an hour or more than 2 pads a day. The more you do, the more you can bleed.

I experienced increased bleeding just after 2 weeks (of course it was after I had my 2 week checkup appt and over the weekend). I panicked and thought something was wrong and made an appt with my dr at 3 weeks. I was fine. I felt so much better after being reassured by my dr. Week 3 & 4 is when the stitches are starting to dissolve on the vaginal cuff, so perhaps this is what you are experiencing. If you are still wondering if this new bleeding is normal for you, make an extra appointment with your dr.

You are just over 3 weeks post-op. You shouldn't be trimming or weeding your garden. Did you look at the hysterectomy checkpoints on this website? I found it really helpful for finding out things we shouldn't do while we are healing. Gardening is a no-no right now. Take it easy.

Feel better and Happy Healing. : )

Re: pain and bleeding

This is your time to heal. Be protective of that. How you heal is important to how you'll feel later. It will all work out OK. Be patient with your body; it akes as long as it takes, you know?
Hugs and peace.
