Total Hysterectomy on the 3rd

I got sick on Christmas day. I went to the ER and a CT scan of the abdomen was ordered. They not only found a large stone in my gall bladder(surgery on the 26th) but a naval orange size mass in my uterus. The cytology and the ultrasound were not back when i went to the doctor. I'm scheduled for surgery on the 3rd and I must admit I'm pretty scared. I had no idea that I had such a mass. I have had no symptoms whatsoever. The doctor did say that it is not a fibroid. Maybe my getting sick with my gall bladder is a blessing in disquise.
I''m 10 years post menopause so will I have to take any hormones after the surgery? I don't take any now.

Total Hysterectomy on the 3rd

Kybutterfly,

Bless your heart, I know you must be scared to death.

I am wondering how your dr. knows that it is not a fibroid??? I say that because I had 2 the size of cantelopes that were removed-I have pictures.

Ultrasounds can only tell so much. Mine did not even show the severe endo that I had on both ovaries.

10 years post menopausal-doubt you will need hormones, but they do say that the ovaries do produce some hormones for many years after your periods cease.

I send you a big and wish you the best on the 3rd.
Please keep us posted.

Wanted to let you know that I was born in Louisville-love Kentucky!!!

Total Hysterectomy on the 3rd

you found a great place to get hyst related info and support. I had a tah/bso over 3 years ago now. I had had no problems ( that i was aware of ) when my dr found a cervical polyp during a routine well woman exam. It led to a polypectomy and testing that reveiled uterine tumors. My hyst was scheduled after that . I was post menopausal by 3 years but was started on hrt the day after surgery. I still went into surgical menapause until we increased the hrt a bit. My dr explained that our ovaries still continue to function and produce after menopause - just at a decreased level. Being 10 years post may make a difference. And each person is different so I don't know what you will need. I think that you should discuss it with your dr.

I'm sending lots of good wishes and s

Total Hysterectomy on the 3rd

Hi SweetPea, Thanks for the quick response. When I went in to have my gall bladder out the GYN went in at that time to check what the mass was. The GYN said that the mass is attached to my ovary and is pushing my uterus to the right and is stuck behind my uterus. I'm just praying that it's not cancer.
I live in a small town in Northeastern Ky. If this turns out to be cancer the GYN wants me to go to Lexington for further testing. I really hate the thoughts of leaving my home to go to Lexington but I hate the thoughts of dying even more so I'll go where I can recieve the best care.
Will keep ya posted Thanks Anita

Hi Jeanus, Thanks for the quick response. I will defintely be talking with my doctor about taking HRT's. I really don't want to take them but if it's best that I do I will not refuse them. Will keep everyone informed. Anita
