No internal exam after hysterectomy?

My friend had the same surgery I had three years ago. She said she only had two post op appointments and her dr never did an internal exam. He only checked the cuts on her stomach. Has anyone else had this happen? She had cervix removed and internal stitches. My dr asks you to come at 2 wks to check the outside and a 4 and 6 week appt to check the inside.there must be a happy medium somewhere. Mine seems overly cautious and hers seems too much the other way!

Re: No internal exam?

I had an abdominal hysterectomy and had one post-op appt at four weeks. There was no internal exam. Because my surgery was for cancer, I had a follow-up exam four months later and there was an internal exam at that time.

Re: No internal exam?

I had 3 and 7 week post op appointments with internal examinations at both. I received excellent care.

Re: No internal exam?

I had my post operation appointment last week. Doctor did an internal exam without the dreaded speculum

He told me I could take baths, but to wait 3 more weeks before getting quality time with my husband.

Re: No internal exam?

I had a post op Dr appointment at week 2. Examined my incision, reviewed the pathogy report, discussed the procedure & restrictions. Listen to my heart , breathing & checked for any swelling on belly & legs. Only bit of swelly belly.. Week 6, Internal exam, which was not ad bad as I thought it would be.. All healed, then checked incision, breathing, heart, reviewed restrictions lifted, just slowly resume activities & wanted me to still rest. I was told theres still alot more to recovery..

Re: No internal exam?

I had the 5 week post-op with a pelvic exam, incision check and general wellness questions. This was originally going to be it unless I had any issues.

Re: No internal exam?

I had two internals - one at 10 days, another at 4 weeks. My doctor was very gentle on the first one - extremely so, and it did not bother me. Actually, he was still gentle on the second one. As a side note, my doc is awesome .

My private joke among my female friends was "Let's take bets on how many pelvic exams Cussette is going to have in 3 months!" Never did the betting, but the winning number was 4 .

Re: No internal exam?

I had 2 week & 6 week post op appointments, both had internal exams, incision checks, wellness questions, and restriction discussions. Everything was fine at both appointments. I have had no bleeding at all post surgery. Weight restrictions went from nothing more than 10 pounds to 20 pounds now. Told sex could resume at 8 weeks but if I wanted to be completely safe, wait until 12 weeks. Resumed sex at 9 weeks and everything still works! It was not 100% perfect, didn't move mountains...but it was nice. My surgeon was a URO/GYN and my LAVH was done prophylactically due to family history and I wanted some suspension work done that my OBGYN couldn't do. Told that next appointment would be at 1 year if I wanted to come back.

No internal exam after hysterectomy?

Due to complications after surgery I had internals at 3 weeks and 5 weeks. After last exam doctor advised they didn't have to do another. I was advised that I would be 'healed enough' for activities 2 full weeks after any spotting or discoloured discharge ceased.
