Post Menopausal Bleeding ~ Doctor says there's nothing more we need to do...
Hello again. I posted last week regarding issues with post menopausal bleeding for several months in a row. My OB/GYN performed a Hysteroscopy and biopsy which came back normal. I called her earlier this week to report that I'm still having heavy, painful bleeding with clots. According to her, since the precious tests were normal, there is nothing more we need to do...What?? I'm menopausal, I shouldn't be bleeding...I made an appointment to see her anyway. If I'm not satisfied, I will seek a second opinion! Thanks for listening to my rant!!

I agree with you 100%: post menopausal women should not be bleeding and if initial tests don't reveal the reason, then more/different testing needs to be done until the reason is found.
Good for you for advocating for yourself (as we all must) and making another appt. If you feel your concerns are being dismissed, then absolutely - it's time for a 2nd opinion.
Wishing you the best and let us know what happens!

Hi I agree with the previous lady that you definitely need a second opinion and preferably with a gyn/oncologist. First off bleeding in not normal post menopause. At the very least it is a major inconvenience and at the most could lead to anemia and possibly even cancer. An endometriial biopsy does not rule out cancer because it only samples one place. A D&C is more a representative sample, but even that is not 100% definitive. Also there is treatment for hyperplasia, any many gyns will start with progesterone to see if it will stop the bleeding. In my case, I was told that the insurance company would not okay surgery until a more conservative approach had been tried. I had 2 D&C's five years apart and was put on prometrium. Since it did not control the bleeding and Iwas becoming anemic iI opted for a robotic assisted vaginal hysterectomy on Aug 12. I can only say that I'm glad I finally had the surgery! My advice is that you find a surgeon who is well experienced with robotic surgery. I am in awe of how painless it has been and my recovery has been uneventfull, as I'm almost at the 4week mark. Definitely not your mother's hysterectomy!! I am 61, and I thought it would be a struggle, but that hasn't been my experience. Good luck to you and definitely get another opinion!

I agree, please get another opinion. It took me FIVE opinions before I was finally diagnosed correctly: adenomyosis, which it sounds like you might have.
I'm not sure why my first 4 doctors never ordered an MRI, but the 5th one did, and it was clear as day. I'm 53, and I, too, was bleeding heavily, with huge clots. Those clots were my uterine lining trying to shed.
With all that bleeding, you're likely anemic.
I had had multiple ultrasounds and 2 endometrial biopsies, with the first 4 doctors. All 4 wanted to either do total hysterectomy or nothing. Um, nothing? Just let me bleed this way forever? The 5th doctor, who actually took the time to listen to me, diagnosed me properly, and was able to do a relatively simple, uterus-only partial, and took me out of pain & bleeding completely.
Please seek more opinions. This doesn't sound right.

Re: Post Menopausal Bleeding ~ Doctor says there's nothing more we need to do...
HI I am 65 yr old female, I had a full hysterectomy in the late 90's last year I had some spotting I freaked because I have a full hysterectomy My doctor said it was from dryness he gave me estrace cream. a few days later I spotted again, I went back and he look at my blood work and saw there was a trace of blood on my blood work. He send me to urologist, that dr gave me a ct scan cytology blood work and fsh test ( not sure how to spell these tests . they all came back negative he said: I have a thinning of the urethra because of the Atrophic Vaginitis, and as urine passes over it a few microscopic blood cells shed off and that is where the blood is coming from He gave me estrace cream. One year later I spotted again I went back to the gynecology told him what the urologist said, he took a pap smear and ultrasound sonogram and cytology blood work, on the cytology report it said no evidence of malignancy identified but red blood cells present. I called to get my results he said everything was fine. he gave me vagifem, I said what happens if i spot again, he said come it happened again I spotting blood this time I saw another gynecology because my Dr had emergency She gave me more vagifem for another month. then she looked at the blood work because of the presence of blood and want me to go for renal ultrasound on my kidneys. I freaking out because this is what happened last year. do you think I bleeding from my kidneys or is it the atrophic vagnitis causing the blood like the urologist said if anyone can help me better understand this I would be so grateful
I dont know if this will help you this has been going on for a year, I think its atrophic vagnitis dryness of the wall of the uterus maybe this can give you some info to help you

Good for you!
have they tested all your hormones??? I suspect the tests aren't sensitive enough. I've always thought this. I never conceived (I'm 50) and all my hormones were "normal". Yeah right.
I suspect you have an imbalance somewhere, or yes...something like a fibroid somewhere. Blood just doesn't appear normally after menopause. Unless you really are in perimenopause and something is wrong. Maybe you need a second opinion?

Re: Post Menopausal Bleeding ~ Doctor says there's nothing more we need to do...
Thanks so much for the feedback. I am currently taking Prometrium and using the Vivelle patch and have been for more than four years, with no bleeding. I did mention this to the gynecologist, I thought maybe it could be significant. I'm guessing that the bleeding is causing some anemia, as I'm so tired all the time, and no energy. My follow up is tomorrow afternoon, I'm hoping for some answers. Thanks again!!
