Home from the castle !!

First, I want to thank all of you for the prayers. Oh, the power of prayers. Just a couple of quick things. One thing I didn't take to the castle was a heating pad. One thing you NEED is A HEATING PAD. They had those heat pouches big enough to hold my nose in. ( my nose isn't that big.) They don't supply them at the hospital I was at. Second, if the ladies on this site tell you to start the gas x pills before surgery, please do it. I didn't. Oh, but wish I had. That is where a lot of the discomfort comes from. Third, if you can donate your own blood, try to do that. This is for a just in case kind of thing. My surgery went well. I was in surgery about 3 and half hours. Times vary. Had the morphine pump for 2 days. The day after surgery I just didn't feel well. The doctor came in and checked my blood levels. A normal range is between 40-30. Mine had dropped to 17. I had to have a blood transfusion. Took 3 bags of blood to get my levels back. This is a rare thing that happens but not uncommon. Blood level was fine after surgery but my petite body wasn't making enough. I tell you this not to scare you because this is fixable. Only, so if you have the chance to use your own blood then it goes a lot quicker. Talk with your Dr. about donating your own to have on hand. I'm on Dilaudid at home with the motrin, stool softener and still GAS X. I will update more in the post-op section. God bless and thanks to all of you !!!

Great News! I am 4 weeks post op today, and yes, GAS X is my friend! I was taking it before surgery as my fibriod uterus was pressing on my intestines. I am still on it, as the swelly belly at night cause some gas. Relax, listen to the Dr, drink fluids and listen to you body!
