More pain after staple removal?
Hi all,
this is my first time posting but I read this site before my surgery which I had a TAH on December 13. I was in the hospital for 5 days. One day before for a blood transfusion since my hemoglobin was down to 6 and then because I had both a horizontal and vertical incision and a very difficult time right after, it took 6 hours for me to be moved from recovery to my room because they couldn't get my pain under control . even in recovery they didn't get it right. Because of my kidney issues my own choices are somewhat limited. Finally, once I got to my room they combined a morphine drip, a pump for when I needed extra, phenegren and IV Tylenol. It's the worse pain I've ever been in and I've been doing through the ringer. I have a myriad of issues, the main one being kidney failure and being on dialysis. They had to do two incisions due to previous scar tissue from bladder surgery 23 years ago where they placed an artificial sphincter and then I had a super public catheter for about a month after surgery. Anyways, I got some of my staples out today, and my incision hurt worse than they did before. I've been religious about taking my pain meds and icing the area. I've also been wearing my binder on and off but jeez it hurts like it did the first few days after surgery. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just insane?

Re: More pain after staple removal?
pbg- I 'm not in any pain , I just had my staples removed Monday. But, no 2 women are alike, but that doesn't make u insane or a wimp. Everybody is different and they heal in their own way ! As long as you take it easy and take ur pain meds b4 the pain starts , not try to wait to long then try to play catch up then ur pain level is even worse ! It does get better, it just takes time ! Remember to pamper the , happy and healthy healing sister !

More pain after staple removal?
I had my TAH November 30 and I'd say the pain is different after staple removal. Not necessarily more pain, just different. For me, staples were in 2 weeks and the scabs that were forming on staple edges were stinging unbelievably for 3-4 days prior to removal. Everytime I moved even an inch the staples pulled and I was in agony. It's now been 10 days that staples are out and the stinging is gone but I have more of an aching/throbbing feeling. Some of the pain is near the incision (horizontal bikini type) and some is higher up on belly. I'm told the higher up pain is actually the abdominal muscles healing inside, and that over exerting myself is what makes them ache more some days than others.
Rest as much as you can and hopefully it will get better soon. Be constantly in touch with your doctor also

Re: More pain after staple removal?
Thank you everyone. I took more pain killers. I could take two but I was only taking one and that helped a lot. I think there was just more pressure and the fact that u probably overdid it walking the aisles of CVS. I appreciate everyone's advice. I also found that ice helped immensely also. My belly was getting swollen and that helped it.
