Re: unsuccessful myomectomy.

Hi, I truly understand you.As we speak I'm bleeding now. I hate wearing baby underwear(I call them) and pads i hate. Had a DNC about 2 yrs. ago. i still have one fibroid they couldn't reach but its decided to act up once again. Im so tired of this but scared too. Guess I have to call my OBGYN again and schedule for a hysterectomy. i am 65 yrs old and finished with periods at 52. Its like starting all over again only with wearings pads instead of tampons.

Re: unsuccessful myomectomy.

Hi Beth

I agree with Shana that you should find out about if a UFE is an option for you. I had one in January, and although my periods are going haywire right now (supposed to take up to 6 months for it to settle down), it was super non-invasive and the bloating went down almost immediately for me.

I figure if it doesn't treat the bleeding by the end of the year, at least my uterus is a smaller size and I can go back to the gyne to revisit options. I won't rule out a hysterectomy, but it seemed a bit extreme to start with that!

Any progress in the last few days with your medical team?

Re: unsuccessful myomectomy.

My gyn insisted on an MRI to accurately map the size and location of my fibroids BEFORE the myomectomy (and before UAE... had two of those too). Ultrasounds are essentially worthless. Ultrasound is a good starting point in your evaluation but can be very inaccurate re identifying size and location and number of fibroids. It is laughable how far off it was for me, every time I had ultrasound followed by MRI. MRI is the gold standard for imaging fibroids. Also, it's much better at identifying adenomyosis than ultrasound. Don't let anyone operate on you or tell you a hyst is your only option without seeing the MRI images. My two cents!
