Trying to decide if my prolapse is bad enough to warrant surgery.

I am 48 and have surgery scheduled next week, but after doing more research I am questioning whether I should go through with it. I have stage 2 rectocele and cystocele. Very slight urine leakage at times and need to splint often to assist bowels, some pressure, but no pain and sex is good. My uterus is at a stage 1. The plan is to remove the uterus and repair prolapse including a sling. Im scared that the potential outcome could be worse than what I currently have and getting so many things done at once just allow for more possible issues. Any thoughts on this? Should I wait until the issues are so bad that there's obviously no other option? Praying I can make the best decision here!

I had my tvh on February 18th. I had uterine and bladder prolapse. I have felt great since! I had no idea I would feel this great. The surgery is not a bad one and recovery is not bad at all if you rest a lot and don't lift anything. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery. Let us hear how everything goes.

Re: Trying to decide if my prolapse is bad enough to warrant surgery.

Hi Lymanlass:

I had a TVH for prolapse (kept healthy ovaries). In my own case, once the uterus was removed, everything else seemed to be in it's proper place, so no repairs were done.

Have you consulted a uro-gynecologist? Most hysterectomies are done for quality of life, not to "save a life". So you will be the one to determine if splinting and slight leakage are a good trade-off.

I hope you are able to find the right answers soon. I am sending huge cyberhugs
