burning leg pain behind the knee and in the hip
I am three weeks after of TAH and I have been really resting a lot and taking it slow like I know I should. But I have been feeling some nerves awaken and it feels strange and numb and tingling.
Unfortunately Now, I now have a very sharp burning pain in my right leg that goes behind the knee and aches into my back and hip. I can't bend my knee at all it even feels a bit swollen preventing me from bending my knee.
I went in for an ultra sound and ruled out a clot.
But the.... WHAT IS IT? I am terrified that something went wrong with the epidural and I will be this way forever. IT already is impacting my daily healing. I'm miserable. My PC doc is at a loss and I wonder should I see a neurologist or go to Phys. Therapy or what..anyone have any ideas?
I also have a swelly belly that is just hanging there too. I had a 24 cm fibroid removed that was filling up a lot of space.
Any ideas or same experience? I could use some hope right now...thank you sisters.....

Re: burning leg pain behind the knee and in the hip
Hi WoozieQ, I had a similar pain but it was down my left leg. A burning from my hip down to my toes concentrating at my knee in the rear. I woke up from my SAH with a sore lower back and all the laying (obviously on my back) during recuperation only made it worse. At about 3-4 months the burning in my knee began.
My PCP diagnosed it to be an irritated or pinched sciatica nerve. A month of prescription Naproxen didn't do much, but exercises I found on the internet seemed to give some relief. I then sought out a chiropractor and have been in his care for about 6 weeks now. This form of therapy coupled with home exercises has given me great relief.
I wanted to tell you to try some of the sciatia exercises easily found on the web, but I would think you are too early in recovery to be bending much. Have you tried ice or heat? When my pain was at its worst, I got relief from alternating ice and heat on my lower back (concentrating on the left side) and applying an elastic ice pack to my knee.
In the meanwhile, I would call your PCP and discuss some more options on what it could be, and ask about sciatica.
Good luck!

Re: burning leg pain behind the knee and in the hip
hi Thank you for that advice. I will take it. I am searching for it now. I do not want this to take over my recovery and last any longer than it has too. Having the surgery was bad enough.
My fibroid was the size of 6 mth pregnancy. What a heavy weight gone now. i want freedom....
I will let you know if it works....
