Hysterectomy cancelled due to flood so now I am reconsidering

Dear HysterSisters,
My LSH hysterectomy was scheduled this morning April 18th 2016, but it was CANCELLED today, because the whole city of Houston and all is outlying suberbs are shut down due to massive flooding! Wow I am so relieved! I'm rejoicing! I just want to still be myself with all my organs intact! So maybe I will opt out of the hysterectomy and just do a D&C! It's so completely less invasive! I will discuss this option again with my ObGyn, since he offered me this option to begin with instead of doing the LSH hysterectomy! My ObGyn will probably encourage me to sick with doing the LSH hysterectomy, but I am not so sure now if this is right course of action for me! I'm Still on the fence HysterSisters! Need prayerful guidance PDQ! All I can say is I'm so relieved today, that I have been spared this, in my opinion, "ordeal" for the time being!

Re: Lodi Jodi

I don't really have any advice for you. Hysterectomy is a big surgery regardless of how it's done. I would never have done it if I had had any doubts. Mine was for cancer so really no choice. I don't know what your diagnosis is. Usually hysterectomy is used to treat benign conditions after a number of other things have been tried and failed. You might want to make an appt with your doctor to more thoroughly discuss your options or get a second opinion before you reschedule your surgery. It does sound like you are having second thoughts. Good luck!

Re: Hysterectomy cancelled due to flooding so now I am reconsidering

If I was feeling that relieved I would definitely consider other options at this point. Being that worried about it that a flood relieved your stress about it, its time for another opinion I think. I have tried other options, and can no longer handle almost bleeding to death monthly, my body is paying the price, anemia, and now migraines, heart murmur, the list goes on. It is a personal choice, but I'd get a 2nd, 3rd even 4th opinion if you are that distressed about it

Hi, Lodi Jodi!

I'm with the other ladies. If you're this relieved, maybe it's a good sign for you to look into some other options.

Did your doctor go through all of the options available (and not available) to you in the past? Did he explain why he suggested the hysterectomy?

Re: Hysterectomy cancelled due to flooding so now I am reconsidering

Firstly, sorry to hear about the major flooding. I hope you and your loved ones are okay.

As far as the op is concerned, I can see where you are coming from as I had my date changed 3 times and each time I felt a twang of relief - but then the symptoms came back with a vengeance.

Here are some things to think about in private:

Were you relieved just because you were afraid of the operation or because it gave you time to look for alternatives?
Have you completed your family?
Can you live with your symptoms or do they reduce the quality of your life?
What is the reason for the hysterectomy, does your research show that something less invasive will work in the long run?

It is your body, your decision. I hope you come to a satisfactory decision. There are plenty of fantastic resources on this site and plenty of knowledgeable sisters too.
