Flagyl

Hi All!

Have any of you been prescribed Flagyl for a vaginal or abdominal infection?

My doc just prescribed it for me for vaginal burning, I was just curious if any of you have had it before.

Thanks!

Flagyl

Hi Annette.
I have taken it a couple times. Once after my TAH as well. Just a piece of advice..don't drink with it. It has a side effect that is related to alcohol. I didn't have any problems with it. I was more bummed I had an infection or problem to take it for. I still have the burning and pain and I am 9 week post op. Ugh!

Flagyl

Hi Annette I've had to take Flagyl a few times, to treat diverticulitis and peritonitis, though I also had to take Cipro with it.

The important thing is not to drink any alcohol while you're on Flagyl, or for a day or two after you stop. The reason is because it will make you nauseous That's why they sometimes use it at alcohol rehab facilities.

-Linda

Thanks for the advice, ladies!

My doc prescribed it because I may have a vaginal infection of some sort. He swabbed my vaginal cuff last week and the swab was a brownish red color. I've had burning in there since then. As it turns out, the courier didn't pick up the sample in time so the lab didn't test it. Argh!! So, he's not even sure I have anything. I was afraid to take it because I'm allergic to Diflucan and I understand they're related.

I'm on my way to the allergist this morning to see if he can help identify my drug allergies better. Wish me luck, this has been a long haul!!

I have been on Flagyl and on Keflex since my incision has opened up to wart off infection-not a nice mix of meds, they make me very nausea and tired, and I too was warned not to drink while on this medication. I will be finished on Friday and cannot wait !!

Zen-
My doc prescribed this prior to my surgery to help ward off any possible infection due to the surgery. It made me very nauseous and the pharmacist advised if I drank any alcohol at all while it was still in my system, there would be a violent reaction. Just be careful and try to eat something with it!
