5 weeks postop, extreme nausea!

I had my hyst and ovaries removed on Sept 11. Also had serious endo removed. I got it done at a big endo clinic, so they said they believed that they got it all so I can do hormones.

I was put on vivelle dot 0.1 immediately. Friday I had a whopper of a migraine. From that, my constant nausea and the fact that I am having some major sleep issues (can't fall asleep, stay asleep, wake up early), my gyn also told me to take 1-2 pumps of estrogen gel. I did that, but also had another killer migraine yesterday (saturday). I took one pump of otc progesterone last night and one this morning. Today, I felt much better. Still have a nausea patch behind my ear - how long can I keep wearing this thing? I've had to have one on for 5 weeks now, since within 36 hours of taking it off, I start throwing up anything that I eat.

Am I on too much estrogen (0.1 vivelle, 2 pumps of gel doubles the amount)? Does estrogen cause or help nausea? My sleep was definitely super for the first time post op last night. My joints ache less. No headache today. I'm just afraid to take off this silly nausea patch again - I've tried going without about 4 times now. Each time I spent the next day hugging the potty.

Thanks,
Heidi (age 35)

Heidi

I use the Vivelle patch too and when I first started using it I was horribly sick to my stomach. When I cut the patch in half I was fine. It seems very likely to me that you have too much estrogen.

Have you asked your dr about it? I'm not suggesting you go against your dr, but it might be an interesting experiment to see if the nausea stops if you take the patch off temporarily. Maybe you should ask him about it.

I don't know a lot about this, but that was my experience. I hope you can figure out what's going on soon. That's a long time to be nauseous.
's, Rita
