Vicious cycle of eating, sleeping, pain pills, and weight gain :(

So I had my hysterectomy done on June 30th, so its been a little over a week. These are the 4 things I do and it is driving me crazy, and it seems like its just causing me weight gain. I take my pain medication "percocet" and then it makes me fall asleep, then I am hungry so I eat, and then I just start all over again. The surgery automatically made me gain a little over 10 pounds when I weighed myself but with no being able to do anything I am just wondering what people have done to lose any of the weight or if it all went away when the swelling and bloating went away and if so how long after the surgery. I still have a pooch down below, I know I am still bloated and swollen.
I am just not used to the increase in weight over the surgery and since weight gain is a big deal to me I am having a hard time handling it.

Thank you for listening as always.

Re: Vicious cycle of eating, sleeping, pain pills, and weight gain :(

I am with you, hon. I guess the best advice is to take it one day at a time and to be kind to yourself. Give yourself some time to get to where you don't need as many pain pills... and then slowly allow yourself to become more active. The most important thing now is that you do whatever you can to heal, and heal well. The rest will just have to wait. (((HUGS)))

Re: Vicious cycle of eating, sleeping, pain pills, and weight gain :(

The weight gain is temporary. They pump you up full of fluids during the operation and some doctors even fill your belly up with liquid to minimize adhesions. Once the fluids are out of your system as well as the swelling is down, your weight will return to what it was. As to the pooch, it will take time for that to go down. I was horrified to find that I had one too after surgery. I am 8 months post-op and it is 98% gone on one side and 90% gone on the other. I am hoping that with eating well and exercise that it will be 100% gone even though I could live with where it is at now. I hope this helps.

Oh sweetie. You are so early in your recovery! Don't be so hard on yourself. You are supposed to be resting and taking pain meds and resting and feeling swollen! Its all part of the process. Hang in there! Things will get better. Right now you rest, rest, rest....take those pain meds, eat as you need too...walk a little bit and rest some more...there will be time to lose what weight you might gain.

Hugs!

Re: Vicious cycle of eating, sleeping, pain pills, and weight gain :(

Yeah I'm also wondering why I am lopsided to lol. The left side of my stomach down there is bigger then the right. It looks weirdm the most uncomfortable thing is how swollen my vaginal area is. Id prefer that swelling to go down first as its very uncomfortable since I had a 8 month pregnancy size uterus I'm used to the puffyness where it once was but not my lower area.

Aw guys I just can't express how relieved I am to find you & hear this bulging middle is only temporary! I'm 5 months post full op + ovaries removal & oh so fed up with being 2 sizes bigger & still getting pains on left side. I love you girls you're so supportive. Thank you for being there I only wish I'd found you sooner xx ( & yes the pains surely are getting less & I feel better month on month, so keep the faith

Re: Vicious cycle of eating, sleeping, pain pills, and weight gain :(

Me too! I can't wear most of my capris and jeans yet. My stomach is still very large. I had two surgeries - May 22 and May 3, so I think that is a big factor. Also could do nothing for 12 weeks, so I am very out of shape. So good to hear SBewes that there is light at the end of this tunnel! I am starting to feel so much better. Hang in there charliechan-you are a newbee sister, so give yourself time to heal. That water weight will go away! Heal well!

Re: Vicious cycle of eating, sleeping, pain pills, and weight gain :(

Hello ladies,
I'm about 13 days post op from a TVH. Someone told me about the website myfitnesspal.com. It has helped me watch my calorie intake and feel a little better about not being able to exercise daily. There are a lot of wonderful people on there, just like this site. I've already lost 2lbs just by watching what I eat. Hopefully everyone with find that something that works for them and it makes a difference. Good luck.

Thanks Stephiede & Kristilou for your kind words & support. I'll give myfitnesspal a go. I do wonder why the water bulge goes up & down at will though & whether a detox or water retention pills would help. Maybe though I should just be more patient!
