Pain Meds

I am about 10 days post-op total abdominal hysterectomy. I still take 2 Vicodin and day. Does this seem reasonable? I am not sure if at this point if I should just be on Ibuprofen, but I just started getting out of the house just a little bit…maybe for an hour, and I am pretty sore mid afternoon. Haven't slept well at all this week. Having a lot of aches in my legs, almost a restless leg thing too only at night time. Thanks!

Re: Pain Meds

Everyone seems to get off the good drugs at different times. I was on percocet for about a week and a half after my surgery. Then I seemed to eat my advil like candy for another week so I wonder if I should have stayed on it longer. But I wasnt in pain so much as just really uncomfortable.
I also get a restless leg feeling late in the evening but I think it is because of my inactive days- I normally never sit still so these past several weeks have been a challenge for me.
Keep resting and walking as it gets a little better every day.

Re: Pain Meds

Everyone is different- some women do not take any after they get home, and I have heard of some women taking them for 4 or 5 weeks. I did the same thing, comparing myself to everyone. However, we all had different surgeries for different reasons, are different ages with different pain tolerances, etc. I took 2 norcos every 4 hours for 4 days, then 1 every 4-6 hours for about a week. But, 2 days ago my pain got as bad as week 2 again, but now I am taking 1/2 with ibuprofen as needed.

Re: Pain Meds

It is appropriate for YOU to be taking the 2 pain tablets and that's all that matters!!!! I had to stop comparing myself to the many other women that have had the same surgery as me on this site otherwise I would have forever been disappointed in myself and my body!!! Gosh I read a post about a woman 2 days post op that said "she felt great" and had wrapped presents, cooked meals etc..... It was from that post on I stopped comparing because I had NO chance, lol x
