I'm new
Hi,
I'm new to this and I'm scheduled for surgery April 8th. Feeling anxious, and scared. What can I do to calm myself and prep for surgery?

you have a long time to wait and worry... best thing to do is to try to have everything in order for the big vacation, get all your questions answered then just sit back and not worry about it...

Actually, I don't think you have that much time. So, what I would do is get everything in order. Make sure you have a place to rest and that everything you think you will need is between hip and shoulder level. You will not want to do any real reaching. Cook and freeze some meals so that all you need to do is pop them in the microwave.
Arrange for any help you think you might need. Especially for the first day or two home. You might just want the help to get up or be around to make sure you do okay in the shower.
I didn't take much to the hospital, and had my swelly belly band delivered after I was out of surgery. I only brought in what I was wearing (shoes, shirt, sweatpants--no bra or undies) so that I wouldn't have to worry about things. To occupy myself in the castle, I slept, walked, watched TV, and chatted with the nurses (one of which gave me a tour of the new maternity area which I enjoyed.)
Keep busy and you will be amazed how fast the time goes!

Hi Marie, welcome to Hystersisters where you will find many wonderful women happy to share their experiences with you. Most women are anxious and nervous before their surgery, it is quite normal considering that a hysterectomy is major surgery. If the anxiety becomes too much for you, please don't hesitate to tell your doctor and s/he can prescribe something to put you more at ease.
If you have not perused the site yet, you will find a lot of information here. New LIWs often find the following pre-op and post-op articles of particular interest:
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=170
https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=171
Please come back often with questions, etc.
s and blessings, peggiesue

I'm a list maker, so when I got a date 3 weeks out, I made my lists of things I wanted to get in the house for recovery, things I needed to finish before I went and things I wanted to take to the castle.
I got my bag out and put things in as I came to them or thought of them. I set up my bedroom. I really used this site and the Hystersisters books to see what I needed for the castle & recovery.
One of the best things I've had at home recovering is the gadget that you use for "reaching". I can pick things up off the floor without bending or reaching. It's been fantastic, especially when I'm home by myself for an afternoon and drop something!

Hello again Marie, got one little task for you when you find some time. Please go back into your profile and enter your surgery date so we can be sure to send you greetings nearer the time, etc.
thanks. many blessings, peggiesue
PS, I second that those "reacher/grabber" devices are really helpful when things drop on the floor or move out of one's reach which they always seem to do when no one else is around.
