Belly button - warm, hard, and painful

I'm just 4 days post-op. Feeling like a truck ran over me. I guess it kinda did ... anyway. Wondering your thoughts on the belly button issue. Above the b.b., it's warmer than the rest of my abdomen, hard, and warm to the touch. I feel so, so tired (quite normal), had a 5.5 hr surgery to get all of the scar tissue out of the way before removing everything, left with Hg of 9.5 ... just kind of concerned, I guess. Worth a call?

Re: Belly button - warm, hard, and painful

I tend to not call for anything (because of past problems), which is why this site is so helpful.

Is it red as well? Do you have a fever?

For me personally, I would probably give it a little longer and see what happens. They do an awful lot in there and it could just be part of the healing process. Parts of my abdomen have seemed warmer than other parts at times during the recovery.

I'm not a doctor or nurse, though. So if it is really concerning you, a call wouldn't hurt.

I hope you feel better soon!

Re: Belly button - warm, hard, and painful

If you have a fever, definitely call the Dr. It could be infected. Otherwise it may be from all the scraping, sewing, and cutting the Dr had to do. I am 4 wks out and my belly button still is a little swollen and red. Best of luck.
