3 day post hysterectomy - backache and dizziness

Hi ladies, it's been 3 days since my op... pain come and goes but spams are constant. I have been having constant low back ache since yesterday.. this morning i felt dizzy and wobbly. Is this all normal? Wake up drenched and need to change my nightdress ... already on estrogen gel but not sure if i should have waited longer to start using it... confused times

Re: 3 day post hysterectomy - backache and dizziness

At 3 days, you're still newly post-surgery. You're likely still dealing with anesthesia in your system, and if you're on pain meds, they could leave you feeling foggy/disoriented too. I suffered from lightheadedness and a dizzy feeling at my first appointment (10 days), and I was found to have low blood pressure. Adding sodium/electrolytes helped.

The backache this soon post op could be either from the position you were in during surgery, your back compensating for your weakened abs (this was my case), or from being in the same position too long. I found lying down or sitting upright to be less supportive than reclining, and I'd get up to get a drink from the kitchen, use the restroom or walk to the end of the driveway to retrieve the mail, just to get some movement in.

If you were prescribed the estrogen gel, use as directed rather than putting it off. Since you had both ovaries removed, the night sweats indicate you're dealing with surgical menopause. It can be more intense and symptomatic than natural menopause because your hormone production (especially of estrogen) was abruptly cut off. Keep a journal of your menopause symptoms (see 10 Common Symptoms of Menopause, though #10 doesn't apply). Tweaking hormones can be tricky, but any information you can share with your doctor about your symptoms can help.

Rest well!
