Excited and nervous
I can read this site all day long and it helps so much with the nerves.
Im so excited to get this done and not have anymore periods. YET Im nervous that she is going to find more when she gets in there and have to switch to an abdominal incision-- and all the other worries that come with never having had such an invasive surgery.
Im scheduled for an echocardiogram today to just be sure my heart is fine. I had cataract surgery a few months ago and the anesthesiologist told me I had a heart murmur which Ive never heard before from any doc. So Im getting it checked out just in case.
Then I go for my preop a week before my surgery. Im going to ask for another ultrasound because my last one was over a year ago. I know what questions to ask now also. Ill also find out if I have to the bowel prep which Im hoping I do because I want everything cleaned out and not in the way in there. Im looking forward to an eventually flat belly with more room for my other organs. Im hoping I feel much better but I know its going to be a while. Thank you ladies for all your support and knowledge.

Re: Excited and nervous
Hi nd2know,
I just had my pre-op yesterday and I was really nervous. I am scheduled for Dvh but may have open abdominal if it is necessary. All this was discussed and I am fine now because I would rather my doctor be able to remove any and all scar tissue, enlarged uterus with fibroids and any other surprises she may encounter. My doctor told me that she should be able to remove everything via the V-canal even if they have to dissect my uterus to get it out. I try not to conjure up too many visuals so I can sleep at night. The main thing is even though I am nervous and I have total confidence in her ability and that is hard for me.
I hope in the next few weeks you will be more comforted as acquire information here. I wasn't given a "bowel prep" but I plan to eat soups and be on a bland diet starting tomorrow to help with my bowels. I have trouble in that area normally so I just want to be my own best friend there.
Take care and lots of HUGS being sent your way!

Re: Excited and nervous
Yes, I feel all the same things you do. My surgery is tomorrow morning, I have to have a large vertical abdominal inscission...Im very nervous about how much pain I will be in, what she may find, etc... I also have to have a blatter sling. I am also looking forward to having my fibroids out and room for everthing thats suposed to be in there. And for legalkttn...not an expert on bowel prep, thank goodness, but I was told to eat a large breakfast before prep. She said I would be misrable if I didnt have something in my system to clean out. Dont take my word on this...ask you doctor though.

Had my surgery on Tuesday, the 20th, LAVH, it was a breeze. No pain meds since the night of the surgery, I was so nervous, almost cancelled the surgery but so glad I went forward with it. You will be fine! I am 61 and had some post menopausal bleeding, the doc did a d&c, found a polyp and some atypical cells so recommended hyst. Glad I don't have to worry about it anymore!
