2 week check-up.....sent to the ER
Yesterday I had my 2 week check-up. I mentioned my eyes being dilated and blurry since my surgery. The doc could see how dilated my pupils were. I have been off the Dilaudid since a week ago Wednesday because I was having very strong muscle jerks in my arms, legs and abdomen and spasms in my diaphram. The doctor said he had never seen a reaction like mine. His office (is in the hospital) called the ER and they wheeled me down there. Six hours later after blood tests and a CT scan of my head they sent me home. The doc had suspected that I might have had a small stroke but all the tests came back normal. They want me to go to an eye doc for further evaluation. Has anyone ever had this happen after surgery?
Otherwise, my pathology reports came back good. Besides these crazy dilated pupils I am feeling pretty good. Just getting a little bored, ok, a lot bored. I just have to keep reminding myself that this will not last forever...

Wow! Sorry you're going thru that. I had some weird eyesight issues in the past week (hysterectomy was 01/05) I don't think I was on the dil....med you were on though.
The vision prob I've been experiencing is mostly in the early part of the day light looks very orangish/yellowish. I also have been having the muscle jerks. Hmmm....
I see my doctor on 02/07 for follow up so I will be sure to mention it to him.
Hope you feel better soon!

2 week check-up.....sent to the ER
I just saw my eye dr. yesterday and he said that blurriness and focussing problems after surgery are very common. He said it can take quite a few weeks for it to resolve.

When I called to make the appt. they recommended to wait 6+weeks before getting a checkup. I was just over 8 and all is good.
He said surgery rarely causes permanent problems, but if you're due for a check(I was) then to wait at least the 6 weeks for the general anaesthetic to be gone.

I had a few different "random" things after surgery. My eyes wouldn't focus for about 2 weeks, the tip of my tongue was numb for about 1 month, an attempted IV site in my wrist causes weird pain when I bend my wrist (that one is getting better with massage)... thankfully everything seems to be resolving with time!

Sorry to hear about your eye problems. My hairdresser also said that the meds are absorbed by hair and it takes six weeks for the hair to grow beyoud the meds.
Its amazing what drugs that are supposed to help do to our bodies.

eye problems
I had trouble seeing through my glasses after surgery but thought it was due to pain meds, then my eyes were burning but I blamed it on allergies and dry air from the heater being on. Then I developed a chalazia (like a stye but in the lid rather than at the base of the eye lashes). My optomotrist said to put warm compresses on it and that my surgery had nothing to do with my eye problems and not being able to see out of my glasses-that I probably needed new glasses. So I made another appointment to check the perscription and he could not get an accurate reading- every time I blinked I thought a different "lense setting" was clear then I couldn't read it. He finally sent me home with perscription allergy eye drops, drops for dry eyes and said to let "things settle down" and reschedule in a couple weeks (I was 7 weeks post-op). I stopped at the tech desk to get my ear piece straightened-my glasses were crooked since I was always taking them off since I couldn't see through them. The woman tech and I were talking and she said "From what I hear from our patients, most women have trouble seeing out of their glasses when they are in menopause or some even when they are PMSing". This website is the BEST source of help so thought I would pass this info on.
