Not a lot, a few questions, weight height, a chat abut the surgery, then fasting...nothing too bad relax

Re: pre op assessment 26th Nov Help please!

Hi nothing to worry about!
(in UK) I had weight, height, blood test, blood pressure, wee test, MRSA test (nostril, armpit and top of leg swipe with a Q-tip), loads of questions about my medical history and allergies/intolerances. Measured up for some pressure stockings. Talked about current medication. Then the chance to ask loads of questions about my hospital stay and recovery. The nurse also had lots of hints and tips on things to bring and things to think about when I went home.

The only "intrusive" thing was the blood test, but they had to do this to find out my blood group and also to check my blood count was a safe level. (I expect they check all sorts of other things too!)

Hope that helps! x

Re: pre op assessment 26th Nov Help please!

They did blood test. They did a EKG and chest X-ray because of my asthma. It took almost 2hrs for me.

Re: pre op assessment 26th Nov Help please!

With me they did blood test (CMP, CBC, type and crossmatch)- CMP tells the kidney functions and is important for the anesthesiologists, CBC- tells if you are anemic or have an infection, type and crossmatch just in case I needed the blood it was already done and ready, urine sample rule out an infection and run a p/g test. They also did height weight and asked history questions. Went over the information about nothing by mouth before the surgery. I did not have to have an EKG or a chest xray because of my age. Each hospital is a little different. They also reviewed the payment information with me.

Re: pre op assessment 26th Nov Help please!

Just do mine Thursday. No test for me. Had pelvic exam and I had my list of questions. And she answered them and told me things I needed to know. Pretty simple. I am not afraid of needles or test. It was more the unknown of after the surgery. The pain and crap. But she put me at ease.
