looking for advice on hysterectomy (endo and heavy periods)

Hi im new here so please bear with me. thanks. Im 33 and have suffered with endo/adenomyosis/enlarged uterus/ very heavy periods for years!!!! have tried every prescription drug to ease the pain and flow with no avail. had 4 laps/sterilisation/ 2 adhesion removals/endometrial ablation and this year 6 month course of decapeptyl monthly injections. (last one 5th July). over last 2 weeks pain and cramping has been horrendous!!! no period yet but i feel its going to return with a vengeance. Have appt with gyn on 3rd Oct. Next step is sub total hysterectomy (leaving cervix). unilateral salpingectomy and unilateral oophrectomy. feeling stressed right now!! xxxx

Im so sorry. Im sorry that you have suffered for years and that you are facing the prospect of surgery. I know that it all seems all so overwhelming. Best wishes for your doctors appointment. Big hugs.

Thanks. the appt is basically just to put me on waiting list. tbh im looking forward to ridding my body of this pain and be able to actually go a whole month at work without abscences and to enjoy my 3 children. xx

I am so sorry you have been going through all that pain, but am am so glad you found this site. All of your emotional stress is very normal - this is one tough surgery to digest and process.

Is your surgeon an endo specialist? I have read that a hysterectomy will not cure endo, and that you need a specialist to actually remove the disease.

Thanks for the welcome girls. Yes he is. The pain i feel when i have a period is unbelivable so much so im now on.meptazinol and doc has to come to my house to give me morphine. My stomach is distended beyond belief and i cant walk when im like this. (have to crawl around the house) not a pretty sight! my hormones are starting to settle down now after the decapeptyl but still taking hrt till my periods return.

I just wanted to drop by and let you know we have an Endometriosis Support forum where you can meet up with other members who have dealt with endometriosis both pre and post hysterectomy.

I am glad to hear you have an endometriosis specialist. Will he be able excise your implants? That made such a huge difference for me. My local OB/GYN had used a cauterization method during my first lap and hysterectomy; thus, he had to leave endometriosis on my bowel walls. Years later, I traveled to a specialist who excised everything he could find. I have done well every since that surgery!
