Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

Follow your doctors instructions regarding this...

All of these surgeries for hysterectomies are quite different: each with their own pros and cons. You do not want a tear in your vaginal cuff. I have read posts of women that had them, and it is not good.

(((Hugs))) to you.

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

There has been discussion in the medical community about the issues with the vaginal cuff with the daVinci robot, possibly relating to how the suturing is done.

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

My curcumstances are certainly not the same as yours as I am trying to recover from a Rectovaginal fistula, but we have been under strict instructions in the bedroom now for 9 months. Of course no one male or female really want to sign up for this but maybe you can get a bit creative and find some other great ways to connect and be intimate!! I wish you the best, hope you recover well!!

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

I was given a 12 week recovery period due to Vaginal Hyst, cystocele, rectocele, and bladder sling. Gave up all my girl parts. I was told by my Uro/Gyno that the abdominal route has a better % for a long term fix, so we ended up going abdominally but he would have done it DaVinci but couldn't (scar tissue and adhesions). At 12 weeks, I was allowed to "ease back into" my routine, and given strict orders to go slow during sex and use plenty of lubricant. I really wouldn't have wanted sex before the 12 weeks, so I didn't feel it was too long to wait. We had waited a longer period while I was trying to carry our second child. Time really does go fast, and you only get one chance to recover. Trust your DR to know what is best for you. Good luck, and heal well!

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

I hate to say this, but I tried yesterday for the third time to have sex following my op on 2 November and ended up once again bleeding, in pain and in tears. I only got married last September and feel like my marriage is over because i dont see an end to this. its getting me so down. just try and listen to your body and take it easy but i didnt try until 10 weeks post op so now at 4 months to be in pain again today makes me wish i hadn't had my hysterectomy. have a wonderful supportive hubby but mentally its taking its toll as im so stressed and suffering anxiety not wanting to ever have sex again. Horrible, wish I could give you more positive post but wanted to be honest.

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

My surgeon said no intercourse for at least 12 weeks.

I just had my six week checkup and things are healing well - I asked about why 12 weeks... He said that at six weeks you are healed to about 40% strength. I asked how long before the insides are up to full strength and he said "about a year".

The idea is to allow your internal tissues to heal and become strong before doing anything that will stress them; I guess I should be glad that my sweetheart and I only have to wait another six weeks or more and not till 2013!!

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

Erine28 - double check w your dr...I see you are scheduled for da vinci not sure if you will have vaginal removal and if cervix is also coming out...if so you migt have a vaginal cuff and you do not want to break open! The research I did on this is scary and as bad as 6 months sounds the alternatives sound much worse. My dr did say da vinci people say 3 months but he prefers 6. Just want to get this out there...its not info that da vinci shares and frankly it freaked me out. I asked dr about abdominal surgery w vaginal removal and he says 8 weeks for that but also long recovery overall. I am going to stick with DvH so I can get back to work quickly, but the term vaginal cuff dehissance will stay with me for quite some time! Good luck with your surgery!

Re: Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

I'm doing LAVH on April 3, and when I asked my doc why we couldn't just do the whole thing laparoscopically, she said because when you do the cauterizing of the cuff from the inside, it can weaken the tissue more than just stitching it by hand vaginally following a clean, sharp cut, so it can lead to higher chances of dissinence of the cuff. That's probably why your doc wants you to wait longer so you can (hopefully) avoid the nasty experience of dissinence. Maybe you could ask about "external stimulation" instead!

Told at Preop today - No Sex 6 months?!?

Oh my!! I actually had my davinci Feb 9th 4 weeks before that I had a laprascopic procedure. Today is post op 4 weeks I go for my check up on Monday. Like a lot of the sisters have said, before I had this I wasn't much wanting to have sex because of all the pain. What sucks is it's already going on 3 months without and I still consider my husband and I newlyweds and our honey moon stage got interuppted so to say lol. BUT!! I want to heal right so Monday I will be full of a million questions. Thank u for the info will let u know what Dr has to say.
