Bladder withheld urine!

Hey sisters!
Well, after a miserable weekend I finally went to the see my dr. yesterday. My only real complaint since my hyst. and a&p repairs is that my bladder constantly feels full, and I have the cramping like I have to go really bad. However, my bag was draining well from my suprapubic cath and I was also going on my own. They suspected an infection and put me on antibiotics and pyridium (sp?) for bladder pain. Nothing helped. So yesterday they decided to remove my suprapubic cath and teach me how to self-cath. I was all for it because of NO rest or sleep due to the horrible full feeling bladder. I asked the Dr. if urine would come out of the hole and he said no, only a little if any. Well, we were all a little surprised when a bunch came out! Ahhhh...instant relief! It had to be a liter. And of course it was bright orange and staining everything because of the meds I was on! So now I'm self-cathing, which I hate because it's kind of hard to hit the hole but I'm going 90% on my own. I slept about 12 hours straight after that yesterday! I hope that didn't do any permanent harm to my bladder with that urine in there for more than a week. He said it must have been kinked or something. Other than that, a little nausea and tired but feeling good!

Bladder withheld urine!

Hi Jackie
Thank goodness they figured out what was going on. I had some problems too and had to self cath, didn't ever do the suprapubic cath. This is so great that you are having such good success going on your own. I hope the progress continues and you'll be able to move past all of this soon. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Jkk47, I feel for you. I came home from the hospital having to cath myself...and 5 weeks later still am. So far if you can go 90% on your own you are doing great, but I know the feeling of discouragement. Keep up the good work.
